Hi Hap,

-> HN> If you take tea at the same time
-> HN> (within an hour or so) of taking
-> HN> the iron, it will inhibit the
->  HN> absorption of the iron...it's

-> OK, then I should take my iron in the evening. I usually take the

 HN> Only reason we knew is because Anne got
 HN> anemic when she was pregnant with Amanda.
 HN> Doctor put her on iron pills and told her
 HN> to lay off the tea when taking them...She
 HN> actually laid off tea for the duration
 HN> of the pregnancy....no caffeine at all.

With Rachel, I had the prenatal vitiamins and iron, was anemic so I was
told to eat liver once a week. Changed doctors for Deborah, used an all
natural multi vitamin plus iron, no trouble with anemia at all. Not a
word said about tea--and I was drinking at least a glass & mug of tea a
day--hot in the morning, sweet & cold the rest of the day.

-> We are definately up in our consumption since leaving HI. But, we still
-> eat a variety of grains & things as well so it's not always rice.

 HN> we have a little brown rice and red rice
 HN> in the house but use them seldom as well.

We can't go quite as low carb as you are. (G)

-> -> I think we have a first aid kit in the car. Started that in Germany
-> -> we were required to have one. Some of your list--not a bad idea for
-> -> to add to our supply.

-> HN> When I was in Explorers my post
-> HN> was a mountain search and rescue
-> HN> unit, so I got used to having that
-> HN> available all the time. I still have

-> We've got several backpacks we can convert. Steve's doctor told him not

 HN> Since you're not going out into the
 HN> wilderness on hikes, it's not a needed
 HN> item. I still go for hikes in the mountains
 HN> at times for photography outings..and
 HN> it's GOOD to be prepared!

No, we generally don't go out into wilderness areas on hikes. Still,
there are times when we travel in winter up north, it doesn't hurt to
have extra stuff like that on hand, just in case. Better to have and not
need than to not have and need.

-> Blandest taste too. (G)

 HN> I don't think so, I prefer it to
 HN> the others.

Of the 3 types of Cheerios, I think I would buy the honey nut if I were
to eat it on a regular basis. But, we don't buy that kind of cereal
99.99% of the time.

-> HN> We use Fiber One, no sugar added to that
->  HN> and regular cheerios,no HFCS and only a
-> HN> minute amount of sugar. Most of the granolas
-> HN> have a LOT more carbs and sugar than that.

-> I generally grab a mini bagel, whole wheat toast, etc instead of cereal.
-> A rare bowl of cold cereal or, on really cold mornings, oatmeal. We also
-> have eggs & suchlike for breakfast.

 HN> We have steel cut oats, eggs and such, and
 HN> cold cereal with yogurt or milk. I try to
 HN> vary the "rotation" but if Anne prefers one
 HN> or another she just has to let me know.

We generally get our own breakfasts on days Steve has morning classes.
Other days we sometimes do our own, other days we eat together. Got a
couple of dozen small eggs from our usual produce lady when we picked up
some spinach from her the other day; 3 of them make a good omelette.

-> HN> Oh I do like the smell of orange
->  HN> blossoms though!

-> In moderation they're OK. Too many at any time and they're too strong.

 HN> True, visit California during the bloom!
 HN> Still for a short while it's very nice!

And don't come here when the pine is pollenating. I thought I'd miss it
last spring by going to LV in mid April but didn't. The trees pollenated
a few days before I left--but it wasn't quite as bad as the year before.
I wasn't quite as miserable. (G)

-> HN> The last series will be the most
-> HN> difficult, as the effects have
->  HN> compounded and she's quite uncomfortable
-> HN> currently. We will both be very
-> HN> happy to see the end of this phase!

-> AMEN! Other than tamoxifin, will she have any other treatments? How's
-> the hair regrowth?

 HN> Not sure, hormone treatment is next which
 HN> will be total estrogen suppression I think.
 HN> We'll know more when we have the next meeting
 HN> with the oncologist on Feb 27. Her hair is
 HN> growing back, very short still and very curly
 HN> as well. The curls may or may not be
 HN> permanent, and the color is grey, but
 HN> that too may not be permanent.

The light at the end of the tunnel is not an oncoming train. You're over
the worst and Anne is doing very well over all. Keep up the good
work--and take her some place special for Valentines's day.

Catch you later,
Ruth
