====================
Hi Ruth,

-> of times when I get something with a bit of fabric, I'll save it (the
-> fabric) and use it in something else. One stand at the farmer's market
-> sells jams & jellies with a circle of fabric on top of the lid, held

 RH> (LOL) Sounds familiar. I save the cut-outs from neck-hugger rice
 RH> bags to make bean bags out of. They tend to be heavy fabric like
 RH> denim, so they're no good for yoyos.

Good tote bags as well, nice for farmer's market time or stores like
Whole Foods that pay you for bringing your own bags.

-> RH> I'm playing more tag with the MS than the sewing machine right now.

-> No fun. Crazy weather getting to you? It was spring yesterday & today,
-> may be so tomorrow, but late winter is returning for the week end. No
-> snow, we had that on Sunday.

 RH> Pretty much. Walking has been no fun lately, and it even decided to
 RH> have a go at my hands. That's happened before, but it's uncomfortable
 RH> to say the least.

Must make cooking really fun--not!

-> I'm always up & down a lot when I'm working on a sewing project. Either

 RH> I try to - otherwise walking when I have to isn't too pleasant.

I hear you there! I'm going to be on my feet a lot tomorrow (grocery
shopping, laundry & then helping co-ordinate a wedding). Wedding is
Saturday so more up & down, scooting here & there, making sure things
are running smoothly.

-> Good! I got my DWR quilt backing & batting trimmed to the edge of the
-> quilt; now I can bind it, hopefully before our 40th anniversary.

 RH> Now number two is mostly finished. I even got work done on a snowman
 RH> table topper. The throws don't have bindings, which makes life easier.

I got a quilt top redone into queen (from double) size, a sweatshirt cut
down and reassembled, other small projects done. Been playing with my
serger again--used wooley nylon on the sweatshirt. Still have a lot of
projects to go before I'm caught up.

-> RH> That might work. I'm thinking of trying hot pepper next.

-> Your stomach, your choice.

 RH> Hot pepper on sweet potato fries is great, so it might well work on
 RH> the regular baked ones too.

I don't do sweet potatoes in any form; OTOH, Steve will do them in any
form but don't think he's put hot pepper on them. We did put pepper
vinegar (and salt) on steamed kale last night.

-> Yes, that's the breaks. There are a lot of things going on down in
-> Raleigh we don't go to either, mostly because of studying, time or
-> money.

 RH> Generally a devil's brew of all three?

Usually. The "Addams Family, the Musical" is in Durham right now but
with classes and the wedding (Steve is sound man), we can't make it.

-> RH> I'm not sure my grandmother kept much more around. She was another
->  RH> New York
->  RH> farm kid.

-> My mom was a NJ (small) city kid. Her dad was an investment banker on
-> Wall Street, very white collar. Dad grew up in North Tonawanda, NY; his
-> dad was a lumber yeard worker, very blue collar. I think my mom's mom
-> was a bit more of a cook than my dad's mom but my mom turned into a very
-> plain cook when she married Dad.

 RH> If your dad is like my dad was, it was probably with reason. Mine was
 RH> a meat and potatoes kinda guy. Me, I did a Vietnamese-style asparagus
 RH> and shrimp soup for dinner last night.(LOL) My mom hated it but I ate
 RH> seconds and had more for lunch today. The stock started with a smoked
 RH> turkey wing since I didn't have pork bones handy. I think the smoke
 RH> flavor threw her.

Sounds good; I've subbed smoked turkey for pork a fair amount,
especially when Steve wasn't eating pork.

Catch you later,
