====================================================================
Hi Hap,

-> HN> That is it for the most part, I have
-> HN> a great time when Anne is with me (grin).
-> HN> When she's not I seem to lose the desire
-> HN> to get "out and about" as much.
 HN> ->
-> I understand. I'd feel the same way without Steve if it were a job
-> situation that had me traveling.

HN> There are times when doing things alone
HN> are fine for me. If I'm going on a shoot
HN> or nature trip for photography, I am
HN> focused on that task at hand, and I
 HN> don't really notice that I'm not
HN> "getting out" as it were. When I'm with

For that kind of work, the less distraction the better.

HN> Anne I'm much more interested in enjoying
HN> the situation. We can really enjoy
HN> walking through a park, an art gallery,
HN> museum, or even an interesting cafe for
 HN> tea and coffee.

Steve's not all that into art so it would have to be a park or museum
that interested both of us, with a stop at the cafe afterward to rest my
feet.

-> We did go back to the bbq place; they
-> were giving out samples of ribs (dry Memphis type rub), sliders of
-> hickory smoked pulled pork with NC red cole slaw (something new to us)
-> and Buffalo smoked chicken wings, all with shoe string cut fries.
-> Couldn't buy anything but drinks as they'd not had the official health
-> inspection (That was today, smelled like they passed) yet. At the
-> tables, they had a house sauce (thick, tomato based, too sweet) and what
-> they labeled as Lexington style but looked & tasted like a red version
-> of eastern NC pulled pork bbq. That one was good on the fries! We'll
-> probably head back there this week end to try a full menu selection.
-> We're also going to get a take home serving of the ribs there and one at
-> the Carolina Smokehouse Grill (place we found in October & have
-> enjoyed). We think the Fire Pit will win, based on our sample tasting.
-> Steve had a bit of all 3 meats; I just had the rib and slider as I'm not
-> really into wings, smoked or not.

 HN> Sounds interesting and fun!

It was, the rub was St. Louis style tho, not Memphis. We went there for
supper last night. I had the pulled pork with the Lexington sauce,
potato salad (a bit of mustard in the mayo dressing, eggs, potatoes and
celery) and cole slaw. Steve got the ribs, fries and pinto beans. We
ended up taking about half the meat home, plus about half the cole slaw
and a bit of the beans. I'm glad they finally opened up; the wait was
frustrating but the end result was worth it.

-> Steve isn't into art as much as I am, especially those artists trying to
-> make a statement. It's more of a "What were they thinking when they did
-> that?" with a lot of the more modern artists. Restaurants--we'd try to
-> find hole in the wall ones that fit our budget & gave us a good meal, no
-> little frou-frous with high prices for a couple of dabs of food.

 HN> There's art and there's art!(grin)..some
HN> places specialize in sculpture, some in
HN> paintings, and some even in native art.
HN> There are also museums, and other things

Depending on the time available, we might head down to Sierra Vista to
visit friends instead. (G)

HN> to enjoy. As far as restaurants go, we also
HN> enjoy the "hole in the wall" spots, but
HN> if we saw and interesting ethnic restaurant
HN> that we'd never experienced we'd be more
HN> likely to visit there to explore another
 HN> new cuisine.

We might do that too, especially if a menu is posted so we can check it
out somewhat before going inside. See if our wallets can handle the
cost. (G)

-> HN> the Zoo. There are lots of gorgeous

-> The zoo would be fun once Logan gets older. Could take the older kids
-> now; I think they would have fun. We did go to the Phoenix zoo (in the
-> Mesa area) at night a few years ago for their zoo after dark Christmas
-> special. Robert was 4 at the time.

HN> If I remember correctly the Phoenix
HN> Zoo is in Papago park, which is sort
HN> of at the convergence of Phoenix, Tempe

I'm not sure on the location; we went after dark and I didn't catch all
the landmarks. Deborah was living in Mesa then, actually about a 10
minute drive from the zoo, IIRC.

HN> Mesa, and Scottsdale. It's hard to tell
HN> when you leave one and enter another!

If that isn't the truth.....................

HN> The park is quite interesting with a
HN> very nice trail that wanders through
HN> it and gives you a lot of chances to
HN> sit in the shade as well as experience
 HN> the desert environment.

Lived there, done that. Actually, Fort Huachuca was high desert, main
parade field flag pole was just about a mile in elevation. We did visit
the Sonoran Desert Museum in Tucson also.

-> Neither of us plays golf.

 HN> Tennis, Ping pong? swimming,
 HN> shuffleboard..there are LOTS
 HN> of choices! (grin)

Used to play first 2, can't now. Swimming is OK, could handle
shuffleboard probably. Visiting quilt shops/sewing stores (good sized
one at 35th Ave)--have to watch the $$ there that I don't over do. (G)

-> HN> any location, Scottsdale is as good
-> HN> a "jumping off point" for other
-> HN> attractions in the area.

-> We'd head to San Tan Valley to visit grand kids. There's also an olive
-> grove--www.QueenCreekOliveMill.com (working) right near Deborah but
-> in Queen Creek (Maricopa vs Pinal county); we visited them last year.
-> Didn't get to then, but may some other time, The Pork Shop
-> (www.theporkshopaz.com) There's also Schnef Farms in the same area.

HN> Sounds interesting! See? LOTS to
HN> see and do! No matter where you go!

I know, did you know about those 3?
