====================================================================
Hi Janis,
JK> > We finally convinced my parents to put a lift in last year. Now they
JK> The owner of the house wanted to seel us his lift for just $1000.00,
JK> and it had cost him $3000.00 new.. I'm a little too stubborn to give
JK> in though. I told Ron, nope, I'll get used to the stairs.. might take
JK> a while is all (g).
If this is going to be the last place you live, you might do better to
have the lift. You can do the stairs now, on good days better than bad
days, but think ahead a few years. My dad built the house they're in
when he was young, not looking ahead to the point where they are now. We
can see where modifications would allow them to stay there without
having the problems they're facing now. The lift was good but more
changes need to be made.
JK> > wonder why they waited so long to do it. It's a big help; they don't
JK> > have to worry about those stairs any more. Now if we can convince
JK> them > of the wisdom of a ramp outside.......................
>> > Nice, but not too big. Hopefully a good flow to the main rooms.
>> Yes, it is I think..
JK> > That's a plus. We have the kitchen & living room in the front, then
JK> a > bathroom & one bedroom (the computer room) starting to head down
JK> the
JK> > hall
JK> That part sounds like ours (g). The front door opens into a tiled
JK> walkway right through the livingroom, the kitchen is next, then the
JK> study (computer room); off the kitchen is a hall to the downstairs
JK> bedroom and the full bathroom. Off the kitchen is also the laundry
JK> room which will be handy.
I can envision it; you do have more "wiggle" room than we do.
JK> >& the other bedroom (sewing room), master bedroom/bath at the end
JK> > of the hall. Very compact but if I'm working in the kitchen, I can't
JK> > always hear Steve in the computer room.
JK> The stairway to the upstairs is in the living room, so there we
JK> differ, and that's where the two extra bedrooms and the 1/2 bath are.
JK> own > room. That's the last place we've lived that had decent storage
JK> for our > kitchen stuff--had a bigger kitchen and we adapted a closet
JK> into a
JK> > pantry/storage area.
JK> Good idea there.. I think two of the cupboards in the kitchen are
JK> pantry-types.. kind of like the canned storage cupboard in my present
JK> kitchen. If I'm
JK> remembering right, that should suffice for a pantry.. time will tell
Always nice to have the pantry. This house has a closet outside the
kitchen (in the living room area) that we stsrted out using as a
combination pantry & linen closet. The pantry won out so we bought a
plastic storage unit to use as a linen cabinet (it's in the computer
room). Got another one for the kitchen to stow small appliances.
>> that just seem to be "around".. next we'll have to decide what

JK> decisions > once we see where we'll be living. Talking about ditching
JK> other > furniture & probably the ottoman. We want to get a couple of
JK> recliners > again.
JK> After the pups ATE my living room pretty much last year (the couch,
JK> one chair, a coffee table) we got new furniture for the living room
JK> and so far they've been well behaved around it hehe.. We'll take all
Good that they gave up on the eating everything in sight. (G) My rocking
chair still has puppy teething marks in it from the Bichon Frisee we got
30 years ago.
JK> of that.. and the dining room table will go in the sewing room -
JK> today I took a look at a another large table I've got and decided
JK> we'll probably use that in the dining area in the kitchen with my
JK> hutch.
>> measure floor space in rooms like the kitchen, etc. I'm also glad my
>> hutch is very small compared to some I've owned in the past. It
>> should fit just fine in the kitchen.
JK> > We'll be making decisions too, but not as soon as you have to. Any
JK> > chance you can get into the house to get some measurements? Our
JK> kitchen
JK> Yes, as we get closer to the closing that should be no problem.
Good. We had one look at this house while the previous tenants were
still living in it. The next look we had was the day that our household
goods were delivered. We had the time to decide which room would be for
my sewing, which for the computers before the place started filling up
with boxes. Didn't realise we didn't have medicine cabinets (still
don't) or a linen closet but have worked around it for 3 years now.
JK> > is big (compared to the rest of the house) but it's also the dining
JK> and > laundry areas so actual work space is limited.
JK> We do have a good sized laundry room.. It's not huge by any means
JK> (8X7), but the owner right now has a large washer and a large drying
JK> in it, plus
JK> shelving/tabletop. We're going to take our combo Washer/Dryer (the
JK> size of a med. size front-loading washer) and that will give me some
We have the full sized machines behind folding doors in the kitchen. the
freezer is just off to the side of them so I fold clothes on it and put
them directly away.
JK> more room in there. I am thinking right now of putting the sewing
JK> machine in there. The Athena Sewing cabinet I have should fit in
JK> there well, as well as the ironing board, spool-holder for embroidery
JK> threads, etc.
Should, but don't crowd yourself out. You may want to use some of that
space for canned goods, etc and sew in a bigger area.
JK> > It's a good salad; I'll probably make another one tomorrow night to
JK> go > with some left overs.
JK> It sounds so good, I've been thinking of it since you mentioned it Lol
JK> > Now's the time of year when I really enjoy the
JK> > variety of veggies, especially, that I can get. If I push myself to
JK> eat > more of them, fixed without heavy dressings, sauces, etc and
JK> less meat > or pasta, I might be able to lose a few pounds. Easier
JK> said than done > tho. (G)
JK> Know what you mean about easier said.. I'm bad sometimes because I do
JK> love meat so much.. but I try to eat salads with just olive oil,
JK> vinegar, garlic and salt and pepper. I've gained some weight thank
JK> goodness since the last
JK> picnic.. I think I was down to something really bad like 110 back then
JK> because of the Topamax I was taking. Now I'm at 120 which is more my
I'm trying to limit the meat and carbs more. Maybe once I stop the
school work, I can get more active and burn some weight off.
JK> normal weight. I'm on a different pill for the spastic muscles, but
JK> that one when I take it makes my legs so weak I can hardly walk.. so I
JK> don't take it too often. If the leg muscles can't operate
JK> effeciently, I tend to keep too much water weight...
Can't win for losing, can you? Does the extra potassium of a banana a
day help?

Catch you later,
