====================================================================
Hi Janis,

>> There is still some left here... I think it burned enough of the
>> testers :) Eoin tried it last night.. it was too hot for him though.

JK> > Did he try it straight or in something? If you try it straight, it
 JK> is

JK> He had it on some food, and mixed in with some food.. just too hot..
JK> no accounting for taste (g). I think he's just used to bottled hot
JK> sauce.. and is used to that level of "heat".

OK, give him time and he may come up to the level of heat in that one.

>> mild, actually - I guess I'm quite the sissy when it comes to that

JK> > to hot. We were both satisfied with the heat level. That was for a
JK> > sampler; the other times we've had the buffet. I've had my eyes
JK> water a > couple of times on some of the dishes! (I usually get very
 JK> small
JK> > portions the first time thru, then more of what I like if I go back
 JK> for > more.)

JK> Generally, I know that those restaurants (the authentic ones) make HOT
JK> way to hot for me, so mild works fine :)

I don't want my whole meal so hot that I can't enjoy it.

>> Ah.. haven't seen that one up here.

 JK> > You haven't missed much. (G)

JK> hehe.. well, if it is pushing that HFCS isn't "natural" that's
JK> something (g) Even if it didn't mean to.. sounds like it if I
 JK> understand your description. :)

Makes me even more of a label reader to make sure I avoid it.

>> > type, manufacturer and serving size. And so forth and so on.......

>> Makes sense.. Pickles, like cucumbers I'd think would be low
>> generally.

JK> > But some add sugar to the pickling liquid; that adds carbs.

JK> Ever try it without sugar? I haven't put up pickles in a long time so

I don't recall off the top of my head what I used; the recipes came from
the 2010 Ball Blue book.

JK> I can't even remember how much sugar if any I put in.. :) I seem to
JK> remember one recipe that used a bit of sugar but IIRC my Dill recipe
JK> didn't use any.. guess it depends on the recipe really.

Yes, and some things (like peaches) you can use light, medium or heavy
syrup. I generally use light or extra light.

 > Hopefully the house will sell fast.

>> Agree there.. who needs two mortgages (grin). Well, if we get to a

JK> > Not fun; we don't even have one.

JK> We can foot it for a while, but I'm sure there are a lot of things I'd
JK> rather do with the $$ that the 2nd mortage is using (G) This new
JK> house is going to cost a bit less in winter, which is great... and the
JK> house in Windsor won't be as bad utility-wise since we won't be
JK> heating it to "live in".

Some good to all of it; the storm doors Steve put in a couple of years
ago did help reduce our heating costs a bit. Every penny helps.

>> here and would generally be a pia to rent it. With the Marcellus
>> shale business in the Broome county area though, I think it will go
>> fast once we get it listed.

JK> > I'm not sure; I've read both good and bad about fracking. It's a hot
JK> > issue in NC now too; I'm not sold on it.

JK> Oh no doubt in my mind the fracking is not a great thing to live
JK> near.. that's one of the things I like about the Ithaca/Tomkins County
JK> area.. It doesn't look like it's going to be approved around here,
JK> which I'm really glad about. In Broome county, I was sick to see that
JK> the water used from fracking is actually used on 17 and other major
JK> roads to clean the roadways.. now where does that water run off to?
 JK> eek...

Agreed! I don't want a well anywhere near fracking. My parents are on
town water but have their well as back up. Came in handy last year when
Irene knocked out the town water. (G)

>> sell it. It cost him $5,000 he said.. he tried to sell it for $2,000

JK> > That must be some fancy lift--is it the basic stairwell thing or
JK> more > like an elevator? My parents got the stairwell one and paid in
JK> > $1,000 or so range. Then too, it just goes up a single, straight
 JK> flight > of stairs.

JK> No, it's not an elevator, just a lift.. but it must be a good one is
JK> all I can figure. The previous owner had it removed before we moved
JK> in, so I'm not sure of it's features, etc.

OK, for some reason I was thinking it was still installed.

>> and couldn't. That's a shame.. we told him if we're able to sell it,

JK> > You may appreciate it on your bad days.

JK> Nah, I'd never do that. It's one of those things I decided a long
JK> time ago.. no wheelchairs, no lifts. The worst I'll come to is going
JK> slowly up the stairs :) Anyone in a hurry can whiz around me haha

My dad had the lift installed (he thought) as only a help for Mom; he
uses it all the time now as well. (G)

JK> > My mom really needed it for some years before they put it in--just
JK> had > to talk abotu it long enough to convince them that they had a
JK> good idea > to do so. (G)

JK> Lifts can be good for some people, no doubt.. especially if they just
JK> can't take making the stairway steps. For me, it's just slow, that's
JK> all. It's actually getting easier now that I've been doing it more
JK> often. No doubt it's the exercise it forces you into.. which is
JK> always what I figured and why I made the decision to avoid things that
 JK> would avoid using stairs.

But sometimes the lift is more practical, especially on days when the
body doesn't co-operate.
