So far I have only knowingly met 3 Jews in South Australia.  The old
synagogue in the city is now a nightclub.  We do have a new Buddhist
temple and a new mosque, though, and an old Methodist church has been
converted into a Sikh temple.  I now have at least 4 Halal butcher
shops and 4 bakeries - 2 Turkish and 2 Vietnamese - within 5 minutes
walking distance.

 -> pickled fish I found was rollmops, made in Estonia.  I also looked for
 -> tempeh, to see if they had the stinky Taiwanese variety, but the only
 -> tempeh was Made in Australia, so I guess it would have been the mild
 -> Indo-Malay kind.

Lots of Asian and Middle Eastern food available here, to suit the
ethnic mix of the majority of the population.  The butchers are quite
competitive with each other, with prices well below those charged in
the local Coles supermarket.  Chicken wings are down to $2.20/kg.

 -> They still have a team clearing crocodiles from the Darwin beaches.

Yes to all that.  There is a multi-storey city block sized
"Crocosaurus" place in the centre of Darwin, with dozens of crocs of
various sizes, where (for a price) people can swim in a pool with 5
metre reptiles, but separated by a glass shield.  There are 2
commercial farms where babies are hatched from eggs stolen from wild
crocs by brave idiots, and raised for skins and meat.  The skins are
mainly exported to Italy to be made into handbags, shoes and belts.

"Jumping Crocodle" tours are popular, where tourists are taken out in
boats into crocodile infested rivers, and the beasts demonstrate their
jumping ability by raising almost their entire length vertically out
of the water to grab a dead chook suspended on a fishing line well
clear of the boat.  It is quite an impressive performance, and ensures
that the passengers don't let their arms hang over the side of the
boat or put their hands in the water.

 RH> Florida has a gator problem too, of course.  One more similarity.

Another similarity is that both areas are prone to occasional
destructive hurricanes/cyclones.

      Title: Oven Baked Crocodile
 Categories: Crocodile, Australian, Chilies
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
    1/2 kg Crocodile Fillets
    1/2 c  Lemon Juice
    1/4 c  Soy Sauce
      2 tb Chopped Parsley
      1 c  Olive Oil
      4 dr Tabasco Sauce
           Salt & Pepper to taste
      1    Clove Garlic crushed
      1 c  Breadcrumbs or Flour
 
  Place Crocodile fillets in a shallow pan. Combine lemon juice, soy
  sauce, parsley, olive oil, Tabasco Sauce, salt, pepper and garlic.
  Mix well. Pour over fillets ond let stand 4 hours. Turn pieces
  occasionally. Then drain fillets and roll lightly in breadcrumbs or
  flour. Shake off excess. Arrange steaks in a greased baklng dish and
  bake in a moderate oven (180 degrees C) for about 1 hour, or until
  tender.
