Ärende: the heat 192
====================
Bonjour Michael!

-> -> Good for the Sockers, bad for you.
-> HN> Bad bad bad....Dumb play and even though
-> HN> it's likely even if the ball had been
-> HN> caught cleanly the whitesox would have
-> HN> scored, it hurt to lose in such a fashion
-> HN> after having fought back from a 7-2 deficit
->  HN> to an 8-7 lead!
->
-> Disheartening for young players, but they have to
-> learn to take the heat and to KCACO, as I am
-> informed is the new mantra.
->
Yeah, but it's hard to do that when you
make a bush play that ends a game.

-> -> what would be the difference between when the one
-> -> "star" is an OBP guy vs. a slugger. As we've seen,
-> -> the OBP guy isn't a game changer, whereas the homer
-> -> king would have a much greater effect.
-> HN> I tend to like the "small ball" aspect
-> HN> of advancing a runner with skillful moves
->
-> Okay, but Ichiro should have been great with that.
->
He was, but he was also a lead off
hitter...so no one was on base in
front of him, and he was very tentative
about stealing so even though he had
the speed he did not have the "risk/reward"
idea instilled in him. And when he did have
runners in front of him (more evident in
his later years with the M's) he'd more often
than not hit into a fielder's choice, or double
play.

-> HN> at the plate...but the crowd loves the
-> HN> spectacle of the long bomb..and I have to
-> HN> admit that it's charm is pretty significant!
->
-> And there's a reason why the cleanup hitter is the
-> cleanup hitter.
->
Make good logical sense if you have three
guys who have good odds of being on base
when he comes up to bat.

-> HN> Not much different than the "sugar daddy" that
-> HN> is so much more common. Still it was funny to see
-> HN> this kid (who was not much younger than me at
-> HN> the time) being led around like a pup on a leash.
-> HN> NOT my idea of a good relationship money or not!
->
-> In the story I mentioned, the guy ended up murdering his
-> sugar mom - I don't know what irritated me more, the
-> fatuousness of the old lady or the absolute horridness
-> of the young guy. Evidence of how ofttimes love is not
-> only blind but incredibly stupid. Consider yourself
-> lucky in your life.
->
I think there was very little of what
I consider love in that relationship. One
wanted *money* and was willing to do
whatever was asked to get a supply of
it. The other had a surplus of $$ and very
little sense of what to do with it.

-> -> Air transport of course is reserved for perishables,
-> -> both transpacwise and transconwise.
-> HN> Not just perishables, but hi value perishables.
->  HN> Live lobsters: yes...Frozen Mackerel: no.
->
-> Fruits and vegetables, especially of the organic variety,
-> are often treated as high-value perishables, even if I
-> don't consider them so.
->
Yep, some are some are not. Apples, coconuts, and
lots of other fruits are still carried by
Freighters.

-> -> What about ti leaves? Though they probably don't
->  -> flush well, they're eminently compostable.
-> HN> Ti leaves are quite thick and not as
-> HN> "flexible" as one might desire.
->
-> Emergencies are emergencies. I am thinking back to my
-> days in the wilderness, where I chose my paper more on
-> sturdiness than flexibility.
->
coconut husks are extremely sturdy!
And tapa cloth can be cleaned and
used over and over.

->   Pounded
-> HN> coconut husks (pounded until they are
->  HN> SOFT) might have sufficed...but panic
-> HN> for poo paper was rampant at the time!
->
-> How long did the strike (and the shortage) last, and
-> were people reduced to that kind of activity)? I would
-> also suggest going to the bidet system as necessary
-> in a water-rich environment.
->
I don't remember...it was a matter of
weeks, but the panic starts on the first
day.

-> HN> Just got my work schedule for the
-> HN> rest of the ball season :-( too fast!
-> HN> I'm (of course) working every game
-> HN> Long shifts as well. to be expected!
->
-> That's in many ways a heartening sign. That you are
-> able to leave Annie home with impunity is great,
-> for example.
->
And it means more $$ as well. Not many
$$ but more than zero is still a factor!

->  HN> hap (who'll be captaining while
-> HN> BOston is in town!) YIPES!
->
-> Ha, keep your heart pumping.
->
Oh I have a feeling it will be working
like a triphammer for a game or so!
chat with you soon!
