Funny how in a lot of markets the big name airlines have
resorted to offering service only from subsidiaries with
lame names (Jazz, Pinnacle Airlines, Chautauqua, and so on)
and lamer aircraft, while the upstarts fly real airplanes
and offer real service. Anyhow, this is what I could get
for cheap, and I get to use the Maple Leaf Lounge, so at
least I get peanuts and pretzels and free booze on the way.

I knew that Hunan had a small kumquat and lemon industry
but was surprised by the oranges. I've made orange beef
both the authentic way and the American way. Depends on
my mood and that of my guests which is better. In recent
years, I've been doing more the latter, because I use
tougher cuts that require marinating, and it's easier to
do the saucy version with the wet meat.

I've had it only lightly toasted with curry spices. The
texture is bizarre, rather like flakes of plastic that
gradually give way when you chew on them. The taste of
course is negligible.

One can hardly imagine eating it raw with sugar. It would
be worse than raw oatmeal (which I understand is also
occasionally eaten).
