Oldest. Then my sister, 2 1/2 years later. Then my brother,
18 1/2 years after that. It didn't get really hairy until
my standardized test results came back, and after that I was
arbiter of all things: both parents worshipped standardized
tests, as do all Chinese I have met from the academic and
mercantile class, except me, who have divorced from these
people through steady downward mobility, which I hope stops
fairly soon. It's an unfair burden on someone just out of
infancy to be called upon to mediate adult issues, such as
Eisenhower or Stevenson (I was for the former) and whether
abortion was okay (I was an "everybody's got a right to
liver", but what did I know at the age of 6 or 7?).

I was obviously a failure, because they never got along,
and nor did they get divorced, which was my best solution
for them.

I noticed the currents early, when I was one and something,
when my mother ran away the first time (she periodically did).
Reconstructing the timeline, she must have just gotten
pregnant with my sister. She eventually came back but
periodically ran off until after my brother was born, then
some kind of anxiety disorder totally took over and aside
from trips to the grocery and whatnot, she was housebound
for ever.

Later on, when I was gone, it had gone from mutual fear and
disdain to something approaching hatred (at least on my
mother's end).

Neh, it's easy. When one is in a family such as mine, the
jog is to hold onto reality.

Arg. Christmas. Though I am mostly a secular person I am
not a venal one.

      Title: Flash Un Kas
 Categories: Appetizers
   Servings:  1

      2 c  Flour
    1/2 lb Butter
    1/2 lb Cream Cheese

MMMMM-----------------------------FILLINGS----------------------------------
      2 oz Goose Liver Paste
      1 ts Worcestershire Sauce
      1 ts Steak Sauce
           Or:
      2 oz Ground Ham
      1 ts Steak Sauce
      1 ts Catsup
           Or:
           Anchovy Paste
           Or:
           Caviar

  Work into the flour the butter and cream cheese. Chill thoroughly... over
  night is not too long. Take pieces of dough and roll very thin, as quickly
  as possible. Cut with a round cookie cutter, size of a water glass or
  larger if desired. Mix together ingredients for one of the fillings. Spread
  on dough, fold over and bake at 400øF until brown. These may be shaped
  earlier and baked just before serving. Serve as an appetizer with beer,
  except the anchovy or caviar which should be served with cocktails. Make
  the anchovy and caviar appetizers somewhat smaller than the ones that are
