=============
Hi Dave,

RH> concentrate. On rare occaisions she bought grape--those times, as soon
RH> as we finished drinking it, she would snatch up the glasses (plastic)
RH> and rinse them. I guess she was afraid the grape juice would stain the
 RH> plastic.

DD> Never saw it stain the plastic jugs it came in. Bv)=

It does, I've seen the stains. Not so much on the clear plastic but the
opaque does stain.

DD> Our glasses were more likely to have once contained peanut butter,
DD> jams/jellies, or pimiento-cheese spread. Or been packed as a premium
DD> in a detergent box. Bv)= I wish I had some of those back - as

RH> I've no idea where Mom got those glasses; I can remember them forever.
RH> She still has, and uses them. I think they used plastic because of the
RH> breakage factor. Their regular drinking glasses were aluminum, until
RH> they put the glasses in the dishwasher. The chemical reactions ruined
RH> those glasses so we replaced them with thermal plastic, dishwasher
 RH> safe.

DD> I remember those garish anodized colours on the brushed aluminum
DD> glasses. I really disliked them, both from an aesthetic standpoint and
DD> because the thin aluminum did nothing to insulate the contents. If you
DD> were drinking a cold drink your hand got very chilled. And if you had
DD> a hot beverage you better have a napkin handy to pick up the glass and
DD> sip very carefully lest you burn your lips.

We always had cold drinks in them. At least they started cold, by meal's
end, the contents would be warm. But, these were a gift for their 1950
wedding so Mom & Dad (I think more Mom) were somewhat disappointed when
the glasses didn't survive the dishwasher. They did use the glasses,
until we replaced them, as we found out.

DD> Single Ruth will probably attest, they are worth young fortunes as
 DD> memorabilia/collector items.

RH> I suspect some people do spend small fortunes acquiring sets of them.

DD> People with too much money will spend it on silly things. Better
DD> something a bit useful than illegal recreational chemicals.

True, or other temporal things. Then too, a lot of things are temporal
in the long run.

DD> juices I prefer unsweetened grapefruit ... and it specifically does
DD> not interact with my blood pressure medicine. Other than that I could
DD> drink a half-gallon of tomato juice a day and not feel overloaded on

RH> I like the V8 type better than straight tomato. I'd still rather have
RH> orange juice but realise I had to adjust, and did so.

DD> We do what we must.

Yes, and sometimes it means a sacrifice.

 RH> And a fellow batchelor?

 DD> Well, yeah. Divorced, actually.

RH> So nobody to cook for him & he appreciates not having to cook for
 RH> himself.

DD> Actually, his son who lives with him is a pretty good cook and shares
 DD> the duties.

RH> Big help there, and more fun cooking for two instead of just yourself.

 DD> Ain't that the truth.

When Steve is gone, I tend to cook one or two main dishes per week and
eat off of them as longs as they'll last. Other meals are more "scrounge
in the fridge/pantry" type.

DD> I never noticed that bell peppers had *any* heat at all. Just the
 DD> kerosene under-taste.

RH> They don't have heat (unless crossed with a hotter pepper); that's the
RH> point of it. She doesn't like any heat.

DD> I like Mexi-Bells ... all the #2 Diesel flavour PLUS some heat. But,
 DD> that's me.

And you're welcome to them. I won't get to defend my chili championship
title this year, due to circumstances beyond my control.

... Gone crazy, be back later. leave a message at the Beep!
