Ärende: keeping busy
====================
Hi Nancy,

BTW, the tag line on the other message just popped up randomly on it's
own accord.

RH> I'll have to go on line and have a look around to see what's
RH> available. Trouble is, even if it's available, will my parents want to
RH> take advantage of something or will they feel that they don't (but they
RH> really do) need it. MOW may be one of those things.

NB> Possibly... but one never knows until one tries... and they might be
NB> ready for it by the time you have some data... You might be able to
NB> talk them into a trial, at least, to see "if it is at all useful". ;)

Like it, love it or loath it? Found out my folks went to Scoharie county
last week end and got all kinds of vegetables for Mom to put up, mostly
freezing. For the pain of doing it, I don't know if it's worth the cost
or not. They apparantly didn't buy potatoes this year, after having to
throw out over half of what they got last year when they went thru the
bushel after getting home. I guess it's the old idea of putting up (even
tho it may cost more, both in dollars and pain, in the long run) is
still taking a long time to die.

NB> NB>> Perhaps replace the cordless with one of the newer multiple
NB> handset NB>> types of cordless? Then they could have the central
NB> phone be the main NB>> station, and have one each of the extra
NB> handsets by their chairs in NB>> the living room... :)

RH> That might be an idea to consider. My dad wears hearing aids so he
RH> needs a phone that's compatable with them.

NB> I think most new phones are, now. The hearing aid specialist was
NB> telling us (for MJ) that one should hold the earpiece up by the
NB> microphone of the aid (in her case, it's up over her ear)... seems to
 NB> work ok.

Dad's microphone is in the hearing aid itself that sits in the ear. He
doesn't like to wear them all the time, especially when it's just the 2
of them at home, but does, reluctantly, wear them. He wants to be able
to hear if anything should happen to Mom. But, we'll see what they
think about a cordless phone with at least 2 extra handsets. Even
having one in the kitchen would save some steps from having to go into
the dining room or computer room to answer the phone.

RH> Steve was in the produce department of the one we go to a
RH> couple of weeks ago, getting bananas. One lady there mentioned the
RH> peaches she had were some of the best she had so he got some. One was
RH> OK, one was tossed and the other 4 were barely mediocre.

NB> Some people don't have the same high standards that we do... ;) Or
NB> the batch changed since she bought hers...

Probably more the latter than the former, tho the former could have
something to do with it.

NB> NB>> One would have to work on the idea that services would in the
NB> long run NB>> provide greater independence, and keep them from having
NB> to depend even NB>> more on others...

RH> IOW, we might be talking to a wall at times, other times, the light
RH> might go on rather quickly. Have to see what I find on line that
 RH> might be useable.

NB> It's a process... nobody wants to admit that they can't do everything
NB> that they used to be able to do... some are able to get past that
NB> easier than others... But even admitting it doesn't mean one really
 NB> gets
NB> reconciled to the fact, at least not totally. :)

I know, but seeing the problems they're struggling with and knowing that
something can be done hurts. I have a lot of pain with my wrists
(especially the left one) and foot but I'm not afraid to do something to
help it back off a bit. I know I can't do a lot of what I used to be
able to do--some I gave up reluctantly, other things willingly, knowing
it would have been pointless to try to hang on to the idea I could still
do it. Seeing what they're dealing with has given Steve and me ideas of
what we want to incorporate into whatever place we want to live in as we
get older.

Catch you later,
Ruth
