JK> Mom did try making her own Chinese food - it was great since she
JK> worked at a day care as the school nurse with a Chinese woman who told
JK> her where to get "real ingredients" and gave her recipes. This was
JK> back in the late 60's/early 70's. Mom had such an aversion to canned

You got lucky... :)

JK> food (probably from the depression era) she never bought any
JK> "dinners".. she wouldn't even buy frozen tv dinner type dinners :)
JK> That I think was because honest to God, dad had to have macaroni or
JK> spaghetti any time he was not on call at the Hospital :) Those nights
JK> when he'd have to work a double shift or whatever meant we could eat
JK> "other" food Lol.. like potatoes.. I'm serious :)

Some people are meat and potatoes, others are pasta and sauce... ;)

JK> Understand.. but sushi is very easy to make and there are so many
JK> books out with how-to's - as long as they have the proper ingredients
JK> (sushi rice, rice wine, nori, etc.) I can't imagine it could be bad..
JK> well you know what I mean (grin).

(snicker) Lots of ifs there, actually.. ;) Once, Richard and I thought
we'd try this newish sushi place that had opened up in a strip(ish) mall
that we often were at... We got as far as into the front door, and the
smell that hit us was so bad we just turned around and walked right back
out... Dunno even how long they lasted, we never really paid any
attention to that spot after that... :)

JK> Yeah.. busy is good :) One thing I've learned with shopping at
JK> Wegman's here is you can't really "stockup" with ingredients for more
JK> than several days. It's a little pia for me but just some adjustment
JK> needed.. When we lived in Windsor, and shopped at the Binghamton
JK> Wegmans we'd do a big shopping jaunt maybe every 2 weeks.. run to the

We go once a week, and just try to get everything we'll need...

JK> local BigM for milk, bread, when we ran out, that kind of thing.. meat
JK> got frozen, most fresh veggies stored like potoatoes, onions, etc. If
JK> I let things sit for two weeks here, well they rot.. so I just have to
JK> cook everything we buy that week.. pia Lol

Meat gets frozen (unless the good by date is far enough out), most fresh
veggies go in the fridge... potatoes sit out on the counter, also winter
squashes... Generally things stay good for at least a couple weeks, but
I also am pretty careful about what I buy, since I'm likely to be not
using it immediately most of the time... Those little reds I mentioned
before have one more meal's worth left of them, they still seem to be
holding up ok... they'll get cooked up this week when I make my corned
beef and cabbage... maybe Tuesday, now...

 >> there last night quite the pia, as everyone seems to be ignorant of
 >> others walking by (you know, people who don't look where they're
 >> going), and those "hard-chargers" racing down aisles..
 > That's never fun...

JK> Definitely... it's all over though. The temptation to stick out a
JK> foot has been kept in check thus far (vbg)

Good girl! (VBG) (Blame it on the MS, right...? [g])

JK> I wish this was a "town" where we lived Lol.. at least Windsor had
JK> that BigM Market (reminicent of very early ShopRite stores, did you
 JK> have those over there?)

We have a BigM not too far out of town, I've driven by it a time or two,
but it's not on my regular path... we may have a ShopRite around, too,
but not something I normally go to. Up in Canton (where we do our
shopping when we are up at the Pond), I think there used to be one,
years ago...

JK> There is a post office here, but catch this.. it is in a shed kinda
 JK> manufactured home .. It's not even a real building :) :)

Yeah, I remember seeing it as we drove by... :)

 JK> ..Ordering Sushi fish
 >>> The biggest issue I can think of is whether you'd have to get so much at

JK> Makes sense..Even they don't want to lose $$ with fish going bad.

Exactly.

 >> we'll see. It was SO nice living in SE NY's Orange County.. When we

 > yeah... life just keeps trudging along, and before you know it, things
 > you thought were yesterday are another lifetime ago... ;)

JK> Sure seems like it, doesn't it.. :) I don't mind so much.. but wish I
JK> could combine all the good parts with "today" Lol

Yeah, there ARE things you wish you could still have available... ;0

ttyl

... It doesn't have to make sense. It's tradition.
