-=> Quoting Michael Loo to Nancy Backus on 03-21-13 19:16 <=-

ML> Apparently there was a countdown time, maybe half an hour
ML> before the ceremony, and when he didn't show up, a call was
ML> made, and he was discovered to be taking his good time about
ML> things but was convinced to hustle on over, so he showed up
ML> maybe half an hour after zero hour, not too bad considering.

No, not too bad considering... Many a wedding starts half an hour or so
late, for any number of reasons... One of my nieces had to wait for her
mother to show up... my sister was also the baker, was setting up the
cake for the reception, and it took longer than expected... When
playing for a wedding I always plan much more music than I think I
should really need for the prelude, since one just never knows... ;)
And more than once, I've gone through all of it and had to repeat
some... ;)

ML> There was a certain amount of improvisation, though even
ML> with additional wraps a certain amount of chilliness was
ML> felt by the young and robust wedding party (Roslind had
ML> provided a blue scarf thing (borrowed, blue, old) for the
ML> maid of honor and fussed maternally about how she should
ML> have brought something for all the rest as well).

One can't foresee all circumstances... ;)

NB>> grampa administered the vows, and asked Richard if he would "take this
NB>> man to be your lawfully wedded wife"... a bit nonplussed, Richard said
NB>> nothing, and Grampa caught it, and returned with the proper form...
NB>> all had a bit of a chuckle over it... and it was caught on tape... ;)

ML> Even then, not to mention now, technology was unforgiving.

Ah, but, in the rehearing later, the humor of the situation is usually
more evident than in the actual...

ML> I'm sure in this case all the unease and anxiety were well
ML> documented. The mother of the bride was most put off,
ML> asking where the groom was to all and sundry (even me, who
 ML> had been just introduced at the event);

Obviously her questions were more or less to the air...

 ML> she hypothesized
ML> that he was taking a tot of the hard stuff with the builder
ML> of the castle (who was, I told her, several sheets to the
ML> wind by this time) and said that she would kill him (the
ML> groom) if he was drunk. Later, he turned up quite sober with
ML> cellphone glued to his ear, and some time later, the best
ML> man showed up and all was well.

..and it's easy enough to let one's imagination go wild while one is
starting to become worried, panicky, distressed, etc... one starts
imagining the unthinkables, even if trying to keep remembering the more
probable and less terrible possibilities.

NB>> ... A good breakfast is no substitute for a large dinner.

ML> I don't think breakfast is justified unless you're working
 ML> heavy labor afterward.

I'm generally in your camp on that... Except for echo picnics, provided
breakfasts (such as at a B&B, or the "free" at a motel if reasonably
decent), or included breakfasts as at a conference/retreat. The latter
can almost classify as working heavy (albeit mental, usually) labor
afterward... :)

ML> Even pork products suffer from being served before noon.

Oh, I don't know... late morning might be ok... ;)

ML> There are other ways of rendering bacon less palatable -
 ML> Title: Filled Mini Cucumbers

Yup, that would easily qualify... I suppose the idea might have been to
make the cucumbers more palatable, though... :)

... Got Kleptomania? Take something for it!
