======================
Hi Michael,

ML> the internet and its instant gratifications provide an attraction
 ML> few can resist.
RH> I know, I've been sucked into it from time to time but try to pull out
 RH> relatively fast.

ML> I've been known to spend days on end following links upon links.
ML> Can't be said to be an addict, though, because when it's not

Chasing electronic rabbits.

ML> available, it doesn't bother me - also true of the news, card

Somehow our remote control (one that needs several steps to turn on the
tv, tuner box and amplifier) got messed up so I had no tv from Friday
until a couple of hours ago. Overall I was too busy to miss it--and we
usually have it on for just the suppertime local & national news, then
Jeopardy. I had the newspaper & Steve's homecoming, with all that
entailed to keep me busy.

ML> games, beefsteak, beer, flying on airplanes, and many other
ML> things that others find addictive. Sure, all these are welcome
ML> and enjoyable to the point of taking up all my attention for a
ML> period of time, but when they're not available, there's always
ML> something else to be entertained or sustained by.

That's about the way I am overall. I can put the computer down if I need
or want to do something else. I was busy enough yesterday that I
downloaded Fido but didn't read it. I'll be starting supper soon so I'll
finish reading after Jeopardy.

RH> home improvement, technology, etc). The paper is easier to leave open
RH> if the dryer buzzes, I need to cook lunch or supper, etc. I'm at the
RH> hospital right now and there's no wi-fi connection but I brought
RH> today's newspaper. I'm old fashioned in some ways but techno savvy in
 RH> others.

ML> I'm mostly luddite but do enjoy many of the benefits of the
ML> 21st century. Speaking of which, good luck again.

Thanks, all went well and he came home on Saturday. Had a rough night
but he's doing better. We went out for a short walk earlier; the doctor
says that walking is good for healing. We'll probably go out again later
for another walk.

ML> Jim was pretty active; Chuck was, I dunno, finding his way, and
ML> I don't know whether he found it.
RH> Don't know, some do, some never do.

ML> Not a big thing, as one can follow a path or not. I have
ML> two acquaintances who wanted to be harmonica players. Both
ML> became reasonably good harmonica players but went off and
ML> did bigger and better things - one became a journalism
ML> professor, the other a statistics professor, until
ML> circumstances changed their circumstances, and they ended
ML> up playing the harmonica again.

Interesting, they both went the full circle.

(seafood prepack)
ML> Slow cooking would even things out, but even so I would
ML> be inclined to presort by cooking time.
RH> I'd just let it go for a few hours on low; that should get everything
RH> done nicely. Figure the acid in the tomatoes would tenderize all the
 RH> tough stuff.

ML> There's essentially no such thing as a tough seafood
ML> if it's raw. Even abalone and limpets, the toughest of
ML> critters, have a nice crunch but are chewable as can be
ML> until you take heat to them. And squid have the famous
ML> minute rule (cook them a minute or an hour, or some say
ML> two minutes or two hours).

So it might be worth trying to do it in a marinara type sauce for a long
time. If I remember to pick some up next time we go to Harris Teeter,
I'll give it a try and let you know how it turns out.

---
Catch you later,
Ruth
