Hi Ruth!

>> Yes, I understand the southern states are getting very chilly if not
>> horrific weather :( Well, it would be horrific to me if I was
>> expecting more moderate temps.

> So much for global warming! Yesterday, Swansboro (on the coast where we
> used to live) got 7" of snow; we didn't get a flake! Steve checked
> Weather Underground about an hour ago; my folks were just below 0; his
> siblings in western NY were just above.

Actually, I've read that this back and forth stuff is normal (?) for global
warming.. But mostly I feel really bad for the Polor bears in all this.. I
guess some of them are adapting though .. trying to live on land rather than
the ice.

>> Humid air is warmer, at least here. We can't stand it without 3

That does help and we're doing about the same.

>Steve is on part 2 of a cold that I've been avoiding (so
> far). He's really pushing the tea and I should drink more than I am.
> I've got a cup cooling while I write this.

Hope you did avoid it.. I did get the one that Ron had, but it didn't hit me as
hard (go figure :) ). Still uncomfortable while it was around though .. We're
supposed to finally hit the mid-thirties next week.. THAT will be a relief :)

> I've had one since late 1998; this is my second one. When it dies, it

That's a handy feature.. I hate it when cords get in the way when something
isn't in use, etc.

>> > That would be a big help! I won't be tied to the stove if I can stir

A check up will come in handy then.. Back in "the old days", when my sewing
machine was of the old mechanical type, I used to do all of that tuning up
myself.. now I wouldn't dare touch it :)

>> > Good; it's a much better option than I was thinking. Michael made

Should work well. I still have to get Ron to adjust the simmer-burner on my
gas stove.. trouble is, everytime I think about it, it's in use and too hot to
handle. so I just keep using my cast-iron 10" frying pan as a
'buffer'. Works ok :)

>> That's neat :) I love turkey, and so does Ron. We've been known to

Agreed :)

>> > That's what I figured; the short grain should be close enough to

>> Yes, it does.. as far as I can tell :)

> Time to start experimenting then.

I see a number of comments on the web about that idea, some agree with me that
it's "close" enough to make a creamy rice. Then there are some who say, 'use
what you have' (g).

>> > I looked all over the Wegman's in Brockport; it's a good sized store

> So I'll just use the short grain brown rice and call it close enough to

I've noticed that at wegmans, you can find it in two different sections: One
or two companies' are with all the different rices they sell, the other is in
the specific Italian section. The one in the Italian section is smaller for
price..

>> Yes, I can understand that one :( You must get some wicked
>> arthritis..

> At times it's a major pain. There are spells when nothing but time helps

Does heat help? like from a heating pad? I did a number on my shoulder this
month and a heating pad seems to be the only thing that helps.. been avoiding
the doc since he's probably going to want to inject cortisone into my
shoulder.. and I refuse to ever have that done again (bg). ONCE was enough haha

>> stores > but just not had the time or chance to stop in before. Now
>> we've made it > to one, one more to check out.

>> I can undersand how that would be fun with every move.. makes the move
>> certainly interesting :)

> It also lets us know what's in the area to know if we can or can't get
> some of our food favorites. Living in so many different places, we've

> them in a new location and remember where we first tried them.

Very true :)

Take care,
Janis
