Ärende: well water                                               [1]
====================================================================
Hi Hap,

-> hn> bad example. Seems it was her one
->  hn> weakness...she just could not let
->  hn> go of him.

-> Is he the youngest? Sometimes an only male lat child is the hardest to
-> let go of. Her husband obviously didn't object to the situation but it's
-> having repercussions now.

 hn> Essentially he might be looked at
 hn> as the youngest. First three kids
 hn> were in a group, Anne's older
 hn> sister, Anne, and then the brother.
 hn> 15 years after Anne, along came
 hn> the youngest sister (who lives out

That's a help in explaining things. Understanding them, not neccessarily
but I get a clearer picture of how the situation developed/stands now.

 hn> here in WA as well). So Brother
 hn> was the youngest for a long time.
 hn> Dad, did object...but to no avail.
 hn> and rather than destroy the family
 hn> he finally gave in. Brother was
 hn> happy to be useless and have
 hn> anyone else do his labor for him.

I suspect older sisters did so gladly at first but then he took
advantage of the situation & woudn't let them quit when they got older &
wiser. Just speculation on my part tho.

->  hn> There's something about well water.
-> hn> pump on the well...they ran the
-> hn> pipe through the rootcellar before

-> My parents don't have a root cellar but I know what you mean about a
-> cool cellar on a hot day. I'm presuming we'll get an update this week
-> but they were to have a plumber in to do some other work (previously
-> scheduled) and have him take a look at the situation. I think they were
-> hoping to get access back to the well water without a lot of fuss,
-> bother or expense.

Update is that they were able to reconnect into the well. Other plumbing
work was taken care of as well.

 hn> My grandparents had a HUGE garden...Probably most of a
 hn> city block in size. My Grandmother and Aunts did a
 hn> LOT of canning and preserving each year. The root cellar

Lots of good eating in the winter too. My dad put in a couple of good
sized gardens but not as big as your grandfather's. Mom did a lot of
canning when we were young, then got a freezer while I was in college.
It's kept pretty full but not all home put up stuff. Dad was fussing
that she now buys a lot each fall to freeze but then also buys a lot of
commercially frozen food instead of using what she has on hand. Part of
it is probably due to the freezer being in the cellar, and thus harder
for her to get to.

 hn> was huge, and dark and full of shelves and dark cool
 hn> corners...a great place to spend a sultry humid afternoon
 hn> in the deep south. Eventually they put a lock on the hn> door to
 keep us kids out...we had a tendency hn> to knock over a shelf now and
 then...

And all those hours of hot, hard work concentrated into now broken jars.

-> hn> It's wonderful that you can have a good
-> hn> relationship with her even though

-> It's nice that the grand kids know who we are so we're not total
-> strangers to them. David's parents don't have Skype and they can't get
-> out to LV very often. Because of David's job, they can't come back East
-> very often either so Robert & Sarah don't know their paternal
-> grandparents as well as they know us. Sarah was (correctly) identifying

 hn> If they have Gmail (it's free) and can get a
 hn> webcam (I think the one I got for Anne cost
 hn> about $40) they are in like Flynn! Even if you
 hn> don't have a webcam you can live chat..and
 hn> they could at least see the grands (David's
 hn> computer has a camera).

I'm not sure what they have, what they can afford.

->  hn> Looking for valentine's presents!

-> It's a running joke with us that I usually get my Valentine's present
-> the day after. Steve dropped a perscription off today and brought home
-> 2 boxes of half price chocolates. They're put up away from the ant's
-> paths of travel.

 hn> We tend to "low Key" Valentines day.
 hn> we give each other gifts and things
 hn> all year long (grin)..

We do too but there's a CVS on Steve's route to/from school. I needed
him to drop a perscription off anyway so......

-> Steve was grilling burgers for lunch today and noticed another tree that
-> didn't look to good. After checking it out, he called the landlord who
-> agreed to have it taken down. More sunlight out back, better chance of
-> getting grass to grow into a proper lawn and sunlight for a garden.

 hn> Grow your own eggplant!! Cukes!! oooooh 'Maters!!!

Possibly next year, not sure how much we can do this year with our times
away already semi set. Maters & peppers as well as herbs but beyond
that, who knows?

-> -> Even if it's one that only God knows of now. We stumble thru each day,
-> -> trusting He will show us more of the picture as we go along. Sometimes
-> -> it's only a nibble, other times it' a bigger bite.
 hn> ->
-> hn> We make our plans on the information
->  hn> available to us...he has a bigger library
-> hn> than we do! (grin)
 hn> ->
-> For sure, and I'm glad we don't read all of the books at once!
