If you persist in traveling north-south, there's no way
you're going to outrun anything. Outrunning generally
involves west to east in these parts, and if you had
to run off US15, you'd be mighty out of luck, as those
valley walls are pretty steep.

Speaking of storms in the Philly area, there were apparently
some yesterday (out here we just got snow flurries, thank you,
Punxsutawney Phil), so they cancelled my flight in an abundance
of caution and perhaps because the flight wasn't full enough.
Not so terrible, except that they cancelled the flight today
as well, claiming XWX, which I believe is a lie. I'm half
willing to put my faith in the Nigerian e-mail in preference
to US Air. I was connecting to United, and so my United
ticket was rendered worthless, but a call to the angel at
the desk got me rescheduled for October on that one. Now I'm
on US and Continental to Phoenix: let's see if that works.

Pretty scary, isn't it, when you see that roiling black in

But with standards in both cases. Here's a dish that
goes both ways and can be excellent, if you use a
little care:

Buttered spinach with cream
cat: side
servings: 6 to 8

2 lb spinach
4 oz butter
2 md onions
2 cl garlic
5 fl cream
s&p & nutmeg

Wash, pick over, and de-stem the spinach. Wilt in 2 oz butter
for 5 min. The author's words are entertaining:
  Allow half the butter to melt in the cooking pan.
  Now ram in all the spinach, forcing it down then
  placing on the pan lid.
When the spinach is tender, give it a few cuts across with a
knife (in the pan, so don't use a Teflon pan).

Meanwhile: mince the onions and garlic and wilt in the rest
of the butter. Add the cream and bring to the boil. Season
with s&p and then let reduce until very thick.

Pour the cream sauce over the spinach and simmer together
a few minutes. Correct seasoning with s&p and nutmeg.
