There are almost as many openings for an Art History major as there are for the
holder of a doctorate in Etruscan Pottery. And hold the fries. Bv)=

Actually, if played right, a master's is like a union card for employment at a
community college in a teaching role. Or for working in state gummint as a
bureaucrap. I found that out (the college deal) at the 2 year college (known
then, affectionately, as either "Plywood U" or "Tinker Toy Tech" due to the
temporary building on the temporary campus) I went to. I had signed up for
American History and the instructor presented a bunch of material with a pretty
obvious pink (tending toward red) shading -- leading to some knock-down,
drag-out arguments led by me and a couple others. Come to find out Weasel
Face's degree was an MA in English and Creative Writing - Poetry from Southern
New Hampshire University; a school I had never heard of until I checked into
his background for a column I was doing for the campus newspaper. I wound up
dropping the course for two reasons - firstly, I was not learning anything from
that dolt and second, it was pretty obvious that I was not going to get
anything like a passing grade from his prejudiced standards.

Other states may have different rules but the IACJC (Illinois Association of
Community and Junior Colleges) mandate only having a Master's degree to become
a staff instructor. No field qualifications specified.

The State of Illinois Civil Service rules do not care what sort of degree you
have if the job requirements list having a college degree as necessary for a
position. I knew a lady at Illinois Department of Agriculture who was in charge
of a test lab in the Division of Meat, Poultry and Livestock Inspection. Her
degree was in Textile Design. Bv)=

RH> milking while the farmer is gone. Even with milking machines there's
RH> still a lot of work to running a dairy farm.

DD> True dat. For any farm - except that there are periods of low activity
 DD> on a modern ca$h grain operation.

RH> Relatively low activity, not actual low activity. Always something to
RH> keep farmers of any type busy.

DD> I know farmers who take a month off and go away with the wife and
DD> kidlings after the crops are in and up. GMOs and Round-up Ready seed
DD> has freed up things like an old-timer (like my grandfather's
 DD> contemporaries) would not believe.

RH> None of the farmers I knew could do that but they were all dairy
 RH> farmers.

That's why I specified "ca$h grain" in my opening remark. I know you can't duck
out on livestock or dairy operations - but, plants can be pretty self tending
... Like cats.

DD> During the day the arthritis pains tend to be a dull ache which is a
DD> background PITA. And when I am tired I can usually get some sleep
DD> before be wakened by the hip or shoulder pains. Usually scrooching
DD> around to a different position in the bed can let me go back to sleep
 DD> ... if fitfully.

RH> Yes, we each cook to our own tastes. Found out a couple of Logan's
RH> favorite foods are rice and cheese.

DD> Title: Jalapeno Risotto w/Sonoma Dry Jack Cheese
DD> Categories: Poultry, Rice, Chilies, Cheese
 DD> Yield: 6 Servings

RH> Doubt he'd go for this--he likes plain rice and don't think he's into
 RH> heat yet.

Might let him try - you might be surprised. I remember Nanook's stories about
Neekha and her chileheadedness at an early age. Might try him on bulgur ....
kids are pretty adaptable.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

Title: Bulgur Risotto w/Corn & Shrimp
Categories: Grains, Seafood, Vegetables, Chilies, Citrus
      Yield: 4 Servings

      2 tb Olive oil
      3 cl Garlic; fine chopped
      1 c Bulgur wheat
    1/2 ts Salt
     12 oz Raw shrimp; shelled,
           - deveined
      2 c Corn kernels
1 md Red bell pepper; cored,
           - seeded, chopped
      2 Limes; 1 juiced, 1 in
           - wedges
    1/4 ts (to 1/2 ts)red pepper flakes
    1/4 c Cilantro; chopped

Fiber-rich bulgur and protein-packed shrimp in this mix will
keep you full for hours-but it takes mere minutes to make.

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Cook garlic,
stirring, for 30 seconds; add bulgur and salt; stir 1 minute
more. Gradually stir in 2 cups boiling water, 1/2 cup at a
time (waiting until bulgur absorbs it to add more), until
bulgur is slightly soupy, 8 to 10 minutes. (You might not
use all the water.) Add shrimp. Cook, stirring constantly,
until it turns pink, 2 to 3 minutes. Add corn, bell pepper,
juice from 1 lime and red pepper flakes; stir, adding water
to keep mixture creamy. Cook, stirring, until corn and
  pepper are warmed through, 1 to 2 minutes. Add cilantro;
  serve with lime wedges.
