 RH> Hi Dave,

DD> friend, Dennis who always has at least one Glass Teat blaring at top
DD> volume every time I stop by his house. I've told him number of times

DD> so he doesn't entertain the neighbourhood. He says "EH?" Bv)=

RH> Sounds like my dad except he mutes the ads. Then when the show comes
RH> back on, he unmutes the set and sound comes roaring back. it was really
RH> bad several years ago when Rachel, David & kids were staying there.
RH> They'd have the kids settled down for the night, then Dad would turn on
 RH> the 11 o'clock news and...............................

DD> I think there is a solution - if your dad will use it.

DD> http://tinyurl.com/U-LISTEN-HEAR will take you to Amazon's "tv
DD> headphones for hard of hearing". I bought a set of "SuperEar Personal
DD> Sound Amplifier" for Dennis for his birthday. But, he won't/doesn't

RH> Our chances of getting him to use it are basically slim to none and
 RH> slim is on vacation.

About what I thought. Tha Slim is *always* on vacation when you need him. Bv)=

DD> use them. I suspect your dad will probably be the same -
 DD> hard-of-hearing and hard-headed both.

 RH> Being polite, yes.

Oh, some days I am the very soul of discretion and politeness.

DD> So, I went looking for a deaf recipe to add to this post ... and found
DD> a site that has deaf chefs presenting recipes in ASL (which I know
DD> that you are capable in) and I thought you might be interested. I also

RH> Might take a look, tho I've not used the ASL in years. Every so often
RH> it's handy, especially when trying to communicate with Steve across a
 RH> crowded, noisy room.

DD> That's handy. I don't know much except basic signs. Mostly involving a
DD> single finger - or two with the other hand's thumb and forefinger at
DD> the mouth preparatory to blowing a raspberry.

RH> Pretty much universal, but not acceptable everywhere.

Lately I have been signalling my displeasure with an upthrust pinky finger. For
those who don't deserve the very best. I don't know of anywhere that blowing a
raspberry is "acceptable". Appropriate, certainly. Acceptable -- naaaaaahhhhh.
Especially a loud, wet raspberry.

DD> watched through the video to see what brand of soup was used as the
DD> text of the recipe did not say. Well, I suppose it's probably the
DD> ubiquitous Campbell's - but no one bought an advert so the labels were
 DD> removed. Bv)=

RH> Label removal seems common, sometimes I've seen fake labels as well.
RH> But, Campbell's is the most common canned soup so they very well could
RH> be the soups used. Can't say as I've bought many of them in the last
RH> few years, switched to more of the Amy's Organics.

I've no experience of "Amy's Organics". Is it a regional or specialty store
brand?

DD> Campbell's is about the only cream-of-mushroom soup that I get along
DD> with. The others have an "off" taste to me. Some from curry, some from
DD> cumin (I dunno what they were thinking), others are waaaaay too salty.
DD> Heck, Campbell's is borderline too salty to start with. Anyway,
DD> Progresso, Wolfgang Puck, Nalley's are OK on some things. But
DD> Campbell's C-O-M is my default. And Bookbinder's Clam Chowder. Oh,

RH> I make my own C-O-M or whatever equivalent 99.99% of the time.

Most of my soup making is along the clear broth lines. Except for potato and
clam chowder and bisque and I think I just negated my first sentence in this
paragraph. Bv)= But, I do make a lot more of the clear broth soups -- partly
because they are quicker and I am usually wanting to get on with other things.

DD> heck - we could do a whole (large/long) thread on canned and/or
 DD> home-made soups.

 RH> Yep!

DD> The URL at the bottom of the recipe will take you to the site if you
 DD> are interested.

 DD> Cooking With Michi | +2002 - 2014 Deaf Newspaper, LLC

 DD> From: http://cook.deafnewspaper.com

RH> Sould be interesting to check out, thanks for the url.

DD> I enjoyed watching it - and didn't have to worry about the volume
 DD> control. v)=

RH> Which is good, if you live in a park where the tin cans are close
 RH> together.

I've no one to the north of me, and south of me is seldom home. Besides she has
little room for complaint after subjecting me to her yappy little fur balls for
nearly three years until they yapped themselves to death. Her current little
teacup sized black curly-haired pooch is friendly and I've never heard it bark.
