RH>> Difference between commuter and resident student. Steve was a commuter
RH>> to Roberts for a year, decided he'd rather be a resident for seminary.
RH>> We don't live on campus, rented a house in town, but close enough to
RH>> the campus we can easily participate in activities there.
NB>> Quite. In my case, I spent lots of time on campus, often spending the
NB>> night in a friend's dorm room.... that way I was easily participating
NB>> in the activities and all, but not officially resident... Not really
NB>> the best of both worlds, sometimes yes, sometimes not at all... ;)

RH> Could have been better than it was?

Probably not... I was dependent for most of my college years on my
father or friends for transportation, unless I used the bus (not a very
convenient schedule) or walked. The old campus (my first two years)
being about 3-4 miles from home, and the new one (the rest, ~another 4
years) being more like 10 miles, walking wasn't a regular option, nor
one that was all that safe (or wise) late at night... And being a
resident student was out of the question financially...

RH> Steve said there was a time or two he made the trip back home when
RH> he should have stayed on campus because the weather was not good for
RH> driving. He lived a good 45 minutes or so out from RWC so I could see
 RH> the sense in that. Resident students didn't have that to worry about;
RH> we just had to trudge thru the weather to get to the dining facility.

And the weather going west is only worse than that in the city and its
environs... but sometimes you don't really notice how bad it is until
you're already committed... IIRC, RWC resident students don't have to
go all that far from dorms to the dining facility, no matter which
dorms... RIT's main dining facility (new campus) is part of the dorm
complex, but then there was the imfamous Quarter Mile to get to the
academic complex. Nowadays, both have expanded greatly... much larger
than it was in my day... and there are buildings now almost all along
what used to be a very open quarter mile trek... :)

RH> When I was a student, only freshman boys lived in dorms; other male
RH> students lived in homes around the community and didn't neccessarily
RH> have to eat school food if they had other arraingements.

On the old campus, there wasn't really enough dorm space, so a number of
students, male and female, found apartments in the general vicinity...
another reason for commuters not to try to become residents.. :) When
we moved to the new campus, there was a bit more space available,
although tight for the first year or so while they were still building
dorms... but there were still a number of students that would find
apartments nearby... a lot of them would cook for themselves... :) But
likely, eat on campus for lunch, rather than bring a lunch... :)

 NB> NB>>> There you go.. ;) A properly appointed chili... ;)
NB> RH>> A lot better than the no heat white chili I had at a baby shower
 NB> RH>> today.
 NB> NB>> Just say no...? ;0
RH>> The one who made it said it had some heat but I sure didn't taste any.
RH>> Guess I should have grabbed the bottle our Life Group keeps in the
RH>> fridge and used a drop or 2.
NB>> Guess your heat tolerance is a bit higher than hers... :) Would she
NB>> have been offended if you'd gone for the hot sauce bottle...?

RH> Probably not but I wasn't at a good spot in which to do so.

Ah. :)

RH>> I've not decided what to do for this year; the auction is April 6.
NB>> That gives you a little time to figure out what you want to make... :)

RH> Yes, and I'm debating. Steve wants me to do an apple cake (sorry, it's
RH> one you can't eat) again but I'm still undecided.

Well... at least I won't be there to worry about it.. ;) Now, if you
were planning to make that for an echo picnic, I might have other
thoughts... ;)

RH>> I think I'd rather go down to to Whole Foods and get some from their
RH>> bar--there's more of a variety to choose from.
NB>> Then the problem is deciding just which to choose this time... ;)

RH> Yes, and remembering to get them. Usually I splurge on cheeses down
RH> there; they put all their small pieces of all types (of hard) into a
RH> box (to keep it in one spot). I have fun going thru it and picking out
RH> new ones to try or finding a small piece of an old favorite.

Do they get marked down, too...? or just that it's in a small chunk so
a bit more affordable that way...?

NB>> Speaking of olives... I finally had that lunch date with my friend
NB>> Donna at Olives (the little Greek Taverna that I had mentioned that is
NB>> one of the sit-down places for MidEastern food...) Fortunately, it
NB>> still is in existance, and appears to be doing quite well still.. She
NB>> was intrigued by the broiled cheese appetizer, so ordered that... Nice
NB>> tasty cheese, with crispy edges, served with pita wedges... and a
NB>> large portion, so we shared it. We both had gyros, hers was eggplant,
NB>> mine was the Olives special... Both very nice, mine had typical gyro
NB>> meat where hers had breaded eggplant strips, with tomatoes, onions and
NB>> tzatiki (sp?) sauce. I had mine with (turned out to be a very large
NB>> order of) sweet potato fries, she had Greek fries with feta with hers.

RH> Both sandwiches (wraps) sound good. Was the tatsiki (varient on
RH> spelling) mildly garlic flavored or heavy on the garlic? We like it
RH> heavier, also if they use adjvar sauce as well on the gyro.

They were, indeed... :) The sauce was pretty mild... at least to
my taste... a bit more of it was served on the side as a dip for my
fries... it was good all the same... ;)

RH> Steve would have liked the sweet potato fries; I probably would have
RH> gone for a Greek salad.

About what I'd expect... ;)

NB>> All very tasty, and we were too full to even think about dessert. ;)

 RH> Bakalava, I presume?

That was one of the options, IIRC... On occasion, they've listed fig
ice cream on the specials board... that might have been more of a
temptation... ;) But it wasn't there this time. :)

NB>> Have you been with your friends to the Korean restaurant yet...?

RH> No, planning has been put on hold for various reasons.

I know you guys have been having lots of stuff going on... are your
friends still not well, though...? Hopefully they've recovered...?
