====================================================================
Hi Nancy,

NB> His presence was NB>> probably a useful thing in itself.

RH> His presence was basically just that. But, he got a chance to see what
RH> was in the house and take some of his things that had been around for
RH> years. That included a pair of drum sticks--he gave up on the drums
RH> when he entered 7th grade. My folks thought that playing drums might
RH> improve his hand/eye co-odination--never did that I could tell.

NB> Not all "secondary" agendas work as hoped for... [g] It sounds like
NB> his being there did serve a purpose, if he cleared some of his "junk"
NB> out of the house... :)

Less for my other brother to have to clean out later. We took a number
of German and English prayer books, catechisms, etc, some written by my
great grandfather.

NB> NB>> Yup, eventually... So, the new auntie is still tied up with the
 NB> NB>> little one...? :)

RH> She was in church Sunday, as was the little one and her parents (got
RH> to talk to mom for a couple of minutes but dad had already taken baby
RH> out to the car). Maybe I'll see her this coming Sunday.

 NB> Probably. :)

I saw her from a distance; they got to church just as it was starting
and didn't stay around that long after. BTW, the newest baby was born
today, at home (not intentional, he just came faster than expected). As
far as we know, only one more baby due this year.

NB> someday... RH>> Well, at least you know what an apple tastes like.
NB> NB>> True... in all its myriad visages... ;)

RH> Should I be like Bubba in Forrest Gump and list different ways to
 RH> serve an apple (shrimp)?

NB> Nope. ;) I can do it just fine myself... [g]

I know, but when you said something about the myriad ways an apple can
be used in, I thought of that.

NB> NB>> specific lack of them... (ie, contains seafood, or,
NB> non-gluten)... NB>> But things like apple and coffee, I'm usually on
 NB> my own still.. :)

RH> You would think people would list apple, especially knowing your
 RH> allergy problem.

NB> You'd think. But, I've found that for whatever reason, apple isn't an
NB> allergy that people can remember... "Oh, right" is the response I get
NB> when I remind again... but that's ok... it's a pretty weird one all
NB> the same... I just found out that a friend is allergic to spinach...
 NB> she
NB> may have told me before, but that's not easy to remember about either,
NB> since it's so out of the norm... :)

It's hard to remember everybody's problems, even in a relatively small
congregation. We've a friend in AZ who can't have any green veggies
because of the chlorophyll, another odd allergy.

RH> We try to let people we know that have problems what's
RH> in something that maybe should be avoided or cook to avoid allergies.
RH> I'm using the stevia for baking to replace about half the sugar in
RH> baked good, making them a bit more diabetic friendly but found that the
RH> stevia gives one lady migraine type headaches.

NB> Hmmm. I tend to stay away from all artificial sweeteners because I
NB> developed that sort of reaction to saccherine... so far saccherine is
NB> the only one that gives me migraines, but I'm not too sure I want to
NB> do the same with other sweeteners.. Hadn't really tried stevia
 NB> myself,
NB> although I was buying it for MJ... perhaps I'll keep giving it a wide
 NB> berth... ;)

OTOH, it helps me so I can enjoy a wider range of things without being
obsessed with the amounts of carbs some have.

NB> NB>> People have (I think) become used to me coming out to the
NB> kitchen to NB>> check what is in the fruit punches... :)

RH> And in our Life Group, I check carb counts on a lot of things. I'm not
RH> as obssesive as I was initially but still, helps to have an idea.

NB> It's useful to have the ingredients lists for foods (especially
NB> packaged ones) handy... one never knows what someone else might be
 NB> having to
NB> avoid or be allergic to...

True, and even tho the EMTs are half a block away from the church
building, we don't want them to get any closer. (G)

RH> If we have chips from a large bag, I'll weigh out what a portion is,
RH> and set it aside for me rather than just reaching into the bag for a
 RH> couple of hands full.

NB> That's simply smart thinking.. :) Especially if you need/want to
NB> have some sort of portion control.... :)

It's helped me keep track of how much I eat and helped me shed that
extra weight.

RH> In our church in AZ, the men did a breakfast on the grounds for
RH> Mother's Day, ladies did the same for Father's Day. That's why I
 RH> was asking.

NB> Ah. Don't think we've ever done anything specifically on Father's
NB> Day... but some years, the June dinner had that sort of slant to it.
NB> June, however, is also graduation month... I suspect that some would
NB> argue that it is usually the ladies doing the work anyway... but that
NB> isn't really the case at our church now, since there are a number of
NB> guys that do some pretty good cooking for the dinners, not just the
 NB> women.. ;)

We have a number of guys that are decent cooks too. Steve is one of
them. (G)
