Ärende: mail drops 697
======================
Hi Michael,

RH> Sounds like you may need to figure out a combination of locations to
RH> get your mail at. Some things at the house, some at some other secure
RH> location. I've read about places that rent mail boxes but don't recall
RH> specifics; it may be worth checking into so certain things don't go

ML> Not that mailbox services are reliable either. Suffice
ML> it to say that my brother helps run a mailroom ... .

It was a thought.

ML> It's easier for me (legally speaking) to have the
ML> essential stuff go to the house, because the address
ML> has to be in state, has to be checked regularly (lets
ML> places like the Shipps' out), and not be a P.O. box.
ML> The dangers of things getting lost or intercepted
ML> (mostly inadvertently) are outweighed by these issues.

Easy in one way, harder in others. You know (generally) where the mail
will be, unless something happens to it in the house.

ML> Story. Once my brother opened a bank statement of mine
ML> by mistake. No major consequence except that for some
ML> period of time he thought he had $10000 more than he
ML> did. It took a little effort - nothing earthshaking -
ML> to get him dug out of that.

Is he one of those that thinks that as long as he has checks, he still
has money?

RH> astray. Do you keep a box or something at the house so your brother
RH> can drop your mail into as it comes in?

ML> There's a chair that he puts it into, except when he
ML> missorts things or throws something essential out or
ML> when it gets hidden in the pile of junk.

Hidden in a pile of junk, I can see. We go thru the stacks carefully
when we pick up held mail at the post office. Missorting on his part--it
happens to all of us but some, on a more regular basis. At least your
repository area isn't in the kitchen where it can get grease covered,
baked, boiled or otherwise cooked.

ML> See, I figure on blowing most of it before I die. If I have
ML> just enough to make debts (most of them not legally enforceable
ML> against an estate anyway, but I don't particularly care to
ML> cheat even the bank) when I peg out, that'll be perfect.
RH> We're probably not going to ever have an abundance of funding either.
RH> Paying the bills, having a bit to travel out to see grandkids, having
 RH> a meal at a nice place

ML> Same with me, mostly, except that I am a free agent,
ML> no substantial family and all.

Steve and I both have 4 siblings, one of his is deceased. Both sets of
parents are still living; we've got nieces and and nephews & great
nieces and nephews. Lots of family!

RH> OK, fo some reason I thought this was one of the older messages.
RH> Staying stateside pretty much until that trip or do you have other
 RH> travel plans?

ML> Hah. I still have tens of thousands of miles to go,
ML> including seeing Ian and Glen (on opposite sides of the
ML> planet from each other). There are things to be said for
 ML> not having grandchildren.

Sounds like interesting travels. We were thinking about going to
Australia while we were stationed in HI but then found out we were going
to be grandparents. Ended up making trips back to the mainland instead.

ML> I hope that he's at least comfortable.
RH> Once the pain meds kick in, yes. When they've worn off, no. He did
RH> appreciate our cooking for him.

ML> Does your father get an adequate supply of them?
ML> At the later stages, especially in hospice, they're
ML> not supposed to take into account the "risk" of
ML> addiction or abuse, because there's no real harm
 ML> that could be done.

I presume he's got a good supply of them. I know his live in aide takes
care of his medications.

 ML> Bacon Potato Hash
 ML> cat: Singapore, breakfast
 ML> servings: 2

Why the Singapore designation of this? I've done similar at home but not
with bacon, but adding onions (usually), bell peppers and garlic (from
time to time). It does look good.

Catch you later,
Ruth
