======================
Hi Nancy,

RH> I would think that cashew milk can be made the same way almond milk
RH> it. We've never done it but might give it a try. I think that nuts with
RH> the fruit, cream and cake might be a bit of a disconnect because
RH> they're hard in texture and everything else is soft and/or creamy.

NB> My thought was that cashews are a good deal softer than almonds, so
NB> might 1) not necessarily work as well in making the milk and 2) might
NB> not seem to out of line for the trifle... :)

Next time we buy cashews, we'll have to get some raw ones and try making
milk from them. Generally I get the roasted and salted for munching.

NB> either RH>> way and she's not responsive.
NB> NB>> So in any case, not choosing to respond to her surroundings...

RH> Not responding hardly at all. Basically, the lights are on, but nobody
RH> is home. Dad has become more aware of it too.

NB> Slipping away. Inevitable, but hard to watch....

Slipping away but according to Don, she remembered Steve and I visited
last month. He hadn't visited in over a month due to working at Boy
Scout camp and other committments but went up the other day and asked if
she knew who had visited her in the time he was gone.

NB> often... probably only once or twice a year at best, so I would see
NB> NB>> somewhat large changes in her mind each time...

RH> We let her know each time we are leaving. She doesn't react with us,
RH> don't know if she does with Dad or not.

NB> Oh, I always let her know when I was leaving, the point here was that
NB> I wasn't really leaving, she just thought I was... I probably had said
NB> something like I'll be right back, but she might not have heard it...
NB> I usually also had to introduce myself to her at the beginning of each
NB> visit, too... She did seem to always retain that somehow I was
NB> family, if not exactly who... and her concept of her own "age" made it
 NB> hard to
NB> conceive of the real relationship for her.

Hard to figure out what her mind was doing then. Sounds like she
probably thought she was of an age where she didn't have any
grandchildren.

NB> NB>> Aunt Edith was alert to the end, just got frailer in body over
 NB> time..

RH> Dad is still mostly alert but the major doses of pain med he's on do
RH> fog him out somewhat. Mentally, tho, he's in much better shape than
RH> Mom but his body is much frailer.

NB> Also very hard to watch....

Yes, it is. We talked to him the other day for a bit. He'd managed to
get out for a hair cut & to see Mom but it's harder for him to get up
there now. Not so much physically, but mentally.

NB> RH>> Agreed--it doesn't have to be "balloon bread" to be good.
NB> NB>> Generally I'd choose dense bread over balloon bread any day of
 NB> the NB>> week... (G)

RH> Depends on the balloon bread--store bought stuff can stay on the shelf
RH> but my home made (somewhat taller, neither dense not balloon,) could
RH> be chosen over a definately dense loaf. A taller loaf means you can fit
RH> more BLT filling (or whatever filling you chose) into a sandwich.

NB> As you say, your homemade isn't really balloon bread... the store
NB> boughten stuff more likely so... :) Taller loaves are better for
NB> sandwiches, denser ones for other purposes... :)

The other day I made me a BLT using my bread. Steve made 2, using the
denser bread.

RH> He wouldn't say so but I think he would appreciate it. He's helping
RH> shut down the local Boy Scout camp this week end, then will try to
RH> square away my older brother's affairs.

NB> Probably somewhat of a thankless task... Hopefully older brother will
NB> appreciate the help.... I did pass along the requests for both
NB> brothers to my church, so there's some support there... :)

Thanks. The "shoulda, coulda, wouldas" are beginning to hit Bill now,
along with the reality of the situation that is, now. At least I know
he's probably eating better while he's in the hospital. (G)
