Now that is actually a promising sign... at least that she isn't as far
gone as it seemed...  She actually is taking more note than is obvious,
and can retain it...  :)

That certainly was the case... it had started many years before as she
was regressing mentally age-wise... first I was the age of her son (my
dad), then of her cousins, and so forth...

Maybe if he understood that she is more there than meets the eye, it
might make it easier for him...  Some of her non-response might be
stroke-related with the response locked inside herself, rather than the
dementia causing a true non-response...

The denser bread probably was more filling, too...  :)   I think I'd be
more likely to save that for other purposes than sandwich making,
though...  :)  Like dunking in soup, or sopping up juices...  ;)
