And granted, one also has to know where to look as well...  With all
your doomy gloomy-ness, I have to wonder if this is a particularly well
protected corner of the world... as I don't see nearly the problems you
do...  perhaps you are right, and this is merely an anomaly... but here,
there is some regular audience building happening, a relatively thriving
arts community, classical concerts happening all around, along with
other sorts of music of all types...  Sibley Music Library as a
storehouse of the musical wealth, and easily accessible to musicians and
public alike...  As mentioned in another thread, there's cooperation
among the various groups, too, which might make for some of the good
climate... And a number of well-heeled philanthropists that seem to make
sure that fund drives for most are almost always met or exceeded...

But still housed on the BU campus...?   And probably utilizes some
students...

That could help.  :)  I suppose it also is driven by who is interested
in being part of the station, and what their main interests are...

What were the headphones for...?   Just shutting out noise....??  I do
trust you didn't have to pay for their use...

this young man is rather a good example of fallibility...  (G)

Whoops!  ;(  Richard, at least, could read music, having played the
violin in high school (and making it into the all-state orchestra twice
as a second violin), and had some couth in actually turning the page... 
I even roped him into doing the pedal part (the chaconne) for the
Pachelbel Canon in an organ arrangement I had... I was fine with the
hands, but keeping the pedal steady at the same time was more than I was
up to...  My pedal skills are pretty basic, as you can guess...  ;)
Usually I only do things that have minimal pedal or that I can minimize
the pedal...  :)
