ML> I did an experiment with the radio, and the inescapable
ML> conclusion is that it's the end of civilization as we
ML> know it, by pretty much any definition of civilization.

Where one does the experiment might influence any conclusions to be
drawn therefrom... even what time of day might weigh in...

ML>> It means as a Bordeaux housewife would make it, with
ML>> ingredients at hand including red wine, oniony things, and
ML>> a fat enrichment (butter or beef marrow).
NB>> Ah. That makes sense... :)
ML> Luckily, the housewives in famous places have small
ML> imaginations, so there's little question about the
 ML> ingredients.

Also limited inventories...?

ML>> On the other hand, it's often used to mean a garlic
ML>> preparation - one of those sorts of ambiguities in the making
ML>> that I tend to fight against.
NB>> Tilting at windmills, at times, though, I'd imagine... :)
ML> Yep, what one does is wait for a calm day and strike
 ML> when it's not looking.

That does have some possibilities... ;) Nowadays they are mostly
replaced by those almost unreachable turbines, though...

ML>> technology has increased expo-exponentially, and
ML>> though good stuff is being kept around to some degree
ML>> and is available if you know what to look for, that
ML>> doesn't help with the audience building.
NB>> And granted, one also has to know where to look as well... With all
NB>> your doomy gloomy-ness, I have to wonder if this is a particularly
NB>> well protected corner of the world...
ML> And yet, as above, you have your doubts!

Not so much when in my little protected corner... ;)

ML>> I doubt it, as our economic value is limited. I used
ML>> to hate pretension, but now I see that it serves a
 ML>> useful purpose.
 NB>> I suppose. :)
ML> As it fosters an urge to preserve and foster good things,
ML> even when the good things are ununderstood.

As long as the good things are seen to be desirable for whatever reason,
at least... :)

ML>> WHRB, the Harvard station, at least last time I checked,
ML>> quite a while ago, used to have a significant commitment
ML>> to serious music - that because my friend Dave Elliott,
ML>> whom I've been out of touch with for a couple years, was
 ML>> the advisor behind it.
NB>> That could help. :) I suppose it also is driven by who is interested
NB>> in being part of the station, and what their main interests are...
ML> I'm guessing pretension has a certain role in this.

Serious music still having a certain cachet, anyway... yeah, I can see
where that could be a factor :)

ML>> Given the basic tenets of Christianity, I figure it has
ML>> to be that way (even though it's not in real life).
NB>> Real life Christians are still fallible people, after all... ;) And
NB>> this young man is rather a good example of fallibility... (G)
ML> So has anyone tried to educate the person?

I'm pretty sure I originally referred to his arrogance... if not, well,
let me note that now... that's gotten in the way of any education
tried... ;) Most of us just let it go... not worth the tilting...

ML> Jamestown Community Chorus, Bach, Beethoven and Bread

Nice title for an organizational cookbook... :)

... The really scary thing about middle age - you know you'll outgrow it.
