ML> Maybe. I'm right at the boundary of technically overweight,

ML> according to my brother, who worries about these things, it

When they started moving the bar, for that, and all sorts of other
things, I stopped paying any much mind at it... But lately, they do
seem to be more anxious about inches around the middle, and abdominal
fat supplies... dunno how much weight to put to it...

ML>> might ought to buy a belt.
NB>> I think you might oughta, too... :) Free up that other hand for

ML> I always hitch my pants up with my left hand, which otherwise

 ML> instrument.

You aren't usually standing to play the "fiddle"? I tend to hold things
mostly in my left hand, and also to catch the excess length of skirt to
avoid tripping on it (like going up stairs)... but sometimes things do
get awkward, when I need the hand for balance as well, or some such.. ;)

 ML> I don't mind.

Just have to put it on the list... ;)

ML>> My point was that I know people who have been sedentary all

ML>> 90s rather than their 70s and 80s, but that is unclear.
NB>> Been watching this thread play out... Mostly agreeing with you on

NB>> other people, though, it obviously wasn't much if any of a factor...
ML> We like to feel empowered - that's why elevators have
 ML> door close buttons.

There are a few times where the door close might be useful... not just
the exercise in feeling empowered... but fewer times than when the door
open is handy... assuming one can remember which is which in the heat of
the moment... (G) Usually I just put my arm out against the door... ;)

ML> I tend to think there's little that
ML> makes any difference. Of course regular exercise of a
ML> moderate sort can make one feel better about oneself,
ML> which in itself is a benefit as well as probably being a
ML> major factor in maintaining health. But there are plenty
ML> of people who are perfectly comfortable in their own
ML> skin without doing any of it.

Yup.

NB>> And then there are the exercise freaks that die of conditions
NB>> brought on by their exercise... One probably can't win, unless
 NB>> one happens to... (G)
ML> Jim Fixx comes to mind. And that Rodale guy who boasted
ML> that he was going to live to 100 and immediately keeled
 ML> over at 72.

Yup, that's what I was thinking of... :)

NB>> I think that the more important part of seeing a doctor regularly is
NB>> that IF something pops up that requires attention, it's easier to get
NB>> it addressed it one is already in the system...
ML> That's so. It helps me a lot to have had doctors who
ML> envy and admire my attitude (there have also been a
ML> bunch who completely did not, and I got pretty much the
 ML> worst care from those).

My experience as well. :)
