Thanks for the appreciation. In the days to come,
there will be many more. The reason for these:

I used to have a really good memory, back when my
travels were much more local (one might say micro)
- I could remember pretty much every root on every
route, evert step on every steppe. This stood me in
good stead when working on the AMC White Mountain
Guidebook committee, the first of many volunteer
activities that have always taken precedence in my
life over professional professional ones.

The advent of BBSing coincided pretty much with two
things - the dimming of my memory acuity and the
increase in scope of my wanderings, from almost
strictly New England to nationwide and subsequently
worldwide (I've been pretty much at every longitude
at one time or another and between latitude 71N to
45S). I started doing trip reports for the frequent
flyer boards, where the readership thought there was
too much about food, and for the food boards, where
the readership thought there was too much about
hotel lounges and airplane seats. Nowadays I just
send things in a one-size-fits-all, and if people
like them, fine, and if they don't, fine. I sort of
hope people here like to savor vicariously some of
the experiences that I enjoy because of never having
had kids to worry about and having been blessed with
a string of smallish inheritances that I could
squander, er, take advantage of at will.

I've taken a lot of notes over the last few years
and written them up as much to fix them in my memory
as anything else; in '13 and '14 the pace of travel
has accelerated as my traveling companion has felt
the urgency of time come upon her, and I've fallen
a bit behind in my chronicling, but having been
cooped up in hospital for a substantial part of the
last month has allowed me to begin to catch up on my
reportage from the last year or so.

Be prepared for a sizable proliferation of travel
posts, not necessarily in chronological order by
trip (though in order within thread). They may come
too fast for comfort, but I figure, one can read them
at leisure or not at all as the case may be.

I'm going to keep going as long as possible, as as
Harvey Pekar writes,
 When you're dead it robs life of many pleasures.

Preserve Butter
cat: condiment
yield: 1 batch

8 Tb unsalted butter, at room temperature
- beaten until light and fluffy
4 to 6 Tb fruit preserves, strained (any flavor)
1 pn salt

This eye-catching butter brings jammy goodness to
an array of breakfast breads and pan sauces
(particularly with port or wine).

In a small bowl using a wooden spoon or a standing
mixer with a paddle attachment, combine all of the
ingredients until thoroughly incorporated.
