=================
Hi Janis,

(books)
>> Right now they are stored in a box in the basement.. one of these days
>> we'll move them upstairs most likely.. more shelves needed (G)

JK> > We'll probably re-arrainge what books go on what shelves when we
JK> move. > Trying to thin the collection a bit so we don't have to buy
JK> more shelves. I'm going to put some of my paperback fiction
collection on electronic format; that'll help free a couple of
 shelves.

JK> That's helpful. I have a feeling every little bit will help when it
JK> comes to books because it's the same here :)

Between Steve's theology and other books, my sewing, quilting, theology
and fiction books, and all our cook books, we've got probably several
thousand pounds. Anything to keep the books but cut the weight will
help. A lot of the fiction I picked up second hand (inexpensive or free)
so replacing with electronic format, even having to pay some, won't be
too costly if I do it a book or 2 a month.

>> I've had furniture like that.. especially dining chairs. They
>> especially seem to suffer from feet-on-the-spindles (g).

JK> > This didn't have spindles but had to put up with 5 kids, a dog or 2,
 JK> > various cats..........................

JK> Real life in other words - to be expected with a good sized family. I
JK> remember my mom's kitchen entry way where her siamese cat had used the
JK> doorway as a scratching post mercilessly - until the wood was
JK> literally shredded :( The cat was her favorite though, and could do
JK> no wrong (grin) I've always kept a scratching post for our kitties,
JK> and that seems to take care of the problem. Just thinking now of my
JK> mom's kitchen and her cat, is funny given the chairs MY idiot pups ate
 JK> :) :)

My parent's current cat did a number on the cellar door--Dad had to put
a metal plate on it. Our cats (Steve's and mine) never did that
much--one did do some damage to a chair in Berlin but she didn't shred
it. We probably had to pay a lot more than the chair was worth tho.

>> another shirt I had. I do that pretty often as its a cheap and easy
>> way to make shirts for myself (no expense of pattern needed in other
>> words). I already had dark blue thread so I was good to go (g).

JK> > Good going! I'm packing up my sewing room so I'm trying not to add
JK> more > fabric to the stash.

 JK> hehe I can understand that :)

JK> >Once we get moved and I get caught up on projects,
JK> > I may get some knit and make myself some (dressy) tee shirts. One
JK> > project I'll want to do before then is to make a pair of dark green
JK> > dress slacks for this winter.

JK> That sounds nice. They should be very comfortable.

Yes, and in the exact color I want. Couldn't find any in the stores I
went to so figured I'd make some. If they look decent I may make more. I
used to do slacks, but haven't in years as my figure changed--first
larger, now smaller.

>> Hopefully someone can repair the chair. It would be a shame to lose
>> those seats with your grandmother's needlepoint. It's not always easy
>> repairing chairs though, from what I've seen. If it's just a matter
>> of drilling new holes or replacing broken dowels that would be good.
>> I've seen sites that discuss repairing a number of types of dining
>> room chairs.

JK> > Dad hasn't put too much effort into looking, what with all the
JK> health > issues he and Mom have had since the chair broke.

JK> Sure, it makes sense that that broken chair wouldn't be a concern
 JK> right now...

Even my brother isn't concerned about it--he's not only "running" things
for Mom and Dad but also Mom's younger sister and our older brother.

>> (sigh).. the center island in Windsor was so large it was perfect..8X4
>> I think? with everything right there for the kitchen, range,
>> dishwasher, sink, frig.. This one will be smaller but the dishwasher
>> will be built in (that's installed now). The original range and sink
>> will remain where they are on the opposite kitchen walls as will the
>> fridg.

>> If I get sick of the kitchen table being in the kitchen and we use the
>> dining room more often, then we might do a real big center island like
>> we did in Windsor.. but that's not the plan. We'd really have to
>> redesign and rip out so much of the existing kitchen. Someday maybe?
>> (G)

JK> > Some interesting plans tho. I'm going to have fun figuring out
JK> stowage > in the new kitchen. There's more cabinet space but I think
JK> the pantry is > a bit smaller. The lower cabinets have half shelves
JK> for the top one so > we're going to take most of them out and put in
 JK> slide outs.

JK> More storage space is always great. One of my big complaints in this
JK> kitchen is actually the slide-out shelving in so many of the
JK> cupboards. There are too many of them for me. I guess given the
JK> kinds of things I want to store, regular cabinets would have worked
JK> better for me than those with slide-out shelves. Then again, when you
JK> are used to changing everything in a kitchen kind of "at will" it's
JK> hard not to think about ripping out the existing kitchen (G).

I guess we all want to change things to suit our needs. Some regular
cabinets would work for me, some I want to convert to slide outs. I
don't really want the half shelf on top in the lower cabinets; I'd
rather have a full shelf but can see where it would help with some of
the taller things like the food proccessor.

>> So far he has at least beaten the high temperature he had - it got up
>> to 103 the day we saw the doctor... two days in a row though he's been
>> at 98.6 or 98.9 so that's good. The cough is lingering, so is all the
>> phlegm draining down his throat.. that's painful and probably still
>> the cause of his still feeling some difficulty breathing. But that's

JK> > Try thyme tea--get a good sized handful, put it in about 2 quarts of
JK> > water. Bring it to just boiling, then let it steep for about 15
JK> minutes. > Strain, sweeten if desired and enjoy. It's a sort of
JK> lemon/honey flavor > and really good for chest congestion. One of the
JK> vendors at the farmer's > market told Steve about it when I had
 JK> bronchitis--it really works!

JK> I was reading about thyme tea yesterday as a matter of fact. I think
JK> I have a bunch of dry thyme, and I may even have fresh thyme
 JK> outside... I'll have to look :)

Hopefully you had some fresh, if not, the dry will work and get him
cleared up. We'll be planting some in the new place.

Catch you later,
