Not folks I'd pal around with, especially if I were one who was

And possibly some side effects of meds he's on could have caused the
effects. Another time, not on those meds and he might have a horrendous
hangover on half a beer.

No, not your problem so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Same as one or two cigarettes can lead to a serious nicotine addiction
to those susceptable to it. I never was into smoking or drinking so
didn't have to worry about getting addicted.

Is he currently seeing a psychiatrist? And no, you can't be a
"helicopter" either.I read something in the paper the other day that the
younger generation that has been so "helicopter parented" is having a
rougher time making life decisions, staying focused on jobs, school,
etc. The blame was put on parents who stepped in and "took away the
bad", did school work, argued with teachers (and coaches) that junior
"didn't deserve (or did deserve) the treatment he got", etc.  A newer
version of the Twinkie Defense--I did it because my parents never let me
make my own choices?
