I have most of Clavell's output in paper copy - from King Rat on. I was
pleasantly surprised that the TeeVee mini-series of Shogun followed the books
so well. Then I realised that James Clavell was a screen writer before he was a
novelist.

I get a fair amount of freebie books from Book-Bub (I think I sent you the
link) and even more from the Usenet newsgroups alt.binaries.ebook and
alt.binaries.e-books ... that along with a copy of Calibre (a free-ware, open
source reader for the confuser that also converts between e-pub format (Barnes
& Noble/nook), mobi format (Amazon/kindle) and PDF. Even though it is open
source freeware I sent the author a "donation" as the program is of great
usefulness to me and fair is fair, after all.

I seldom use coupons beyond stuff for snatch & grabbit fats food places. Many
places like Walgreen's and CVS have gone away from coupons - preferring their
in-store loyalty programmes.

RH> shouldn't hear too much tho; I've not noticed any train noise when I've

Most of the train traffic on this particular set is AMTRAK. And there are no
grade crossing to blow the horn for nearer than most of a mile - and going
away. Less than the noise I get here at 2 or 3 ayem.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Shogun's Onion Soup
 Categories: Vegetables, Beef, Poultry, Herbs
      Yield: 6 servings

    1/2 Rib celery; chopped
      1 sm Onion; chopped
    1/2 Carrot; chopped
1 ts Fresh ginger root; grated
1/4 ts Minced fresh garlic; or more
      2 tb Chicken stock
      3 ts Beef bouillon granules
      1 c  Fresh shiitake mushrooms;
           - chopped
      2 qt Water
      1 c  Baby portobello mushrooms;
           - sliced
      1 tb Fresh chives; minced

The basic Japanese soup that's given out as an appetizer
at most Japanese restaurants. Very mild, a bit salty, and
a touch of tang. It's a very improvisable recipe; most of
the ingredients' quantities can be changed according to
  taste.

In a large saucepan or stockpot, combine the celery,
onion, carrot, ginger, garlic, and a few of the mushrooms.
Add chicken stock, beef bouillon, and water. Place the pot
over high heat, and bring to a rolling boil. When the
mixture reaches boiling, cover, reduce heat to medium, and
  cook for 45 minutes.

Place all of the remaining mushrooms into a separate pot.
When the boiling mixture is done, place a strainer over
the pot with the mushrooms in it. Strain the cooked soup
into the pot with the mushrooms. Discard strained
  materials.

Serve the broth with mushrooms in small porcelain bowls,
and sprinkle fresh chives over the top. Use Asian soup
  spoons for an elegant effect.

  Servings: 6
