====================================================================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> Hopefully he didn't re-injure the back... Good thinking on
 NB> using the NB>> jack... :)

RH> So far, the back is doing ok (at least he's not said anything about it
 RH> hurting a lot more).

 NB> That's a relief... don't need more trouble there..

No, and I think he's being cautious about it. He did mention it was
hurting a bit last night but hasn't said anything today so I think a
good night's sleep helped.

RH> We ordered 3 big items to be delivered, 2 to fit empty spaces,
 RH> one as a replacement. We're getting a new washer & dryer,
RH> plus, in evaluating the in place stove (and having trouble
RH> cleaning it), we've ordered a new one. No gas fittings so we're going
RH> with another smooth top, with convection oven (3! racks in it) and 5
RH> cooking areas on top, 2 of them having dual pot size capabilities and
 RH> fast boil settings.

NB> You were already planning on the washer and dryer...? The stove
NB> sounds like a very nice addition... is there also a regular oven, or
NB> just the convection...? I'm sure you'll enjoy cooking with it. :)

Regular oven with convection--3 racks, the bottom one comes out when the
door is opened. It's also self cleaning. We donated the old stove to our
church, went over yesterday but Steve didn't do any of the lifting
there.

NB> other work. NB>> At least you are on the downward slope now. :)

RH> You think so? To look at the pile up of boxes to be filled, I
RH> sometimes wonder. Then I realise how many boxes have been filled.

NB> Weellllll... Maybe just very near the peak...? (G) But, given all
NB> that has already been done, I'd figure just past the peak, anyway...
 NB> ;)

It just doesn't seem to be getting any emptier but we keep brining in
more boxes for packing. We're going to try to empty out a good bit of
the sewing room today to give us more "staging" room. It'll also make
the whole house look emptier.

RH> Living room and sewing room are well under control, bedroom shouldn't
RH> be too bad. It's the kitchen and computer room that will take the most
RH> work. One bathroom is 85% packed, the other won't take too long.

NB> And the kitchen has been in the process of being packed already, so
NB> it's not like it's the whole job still looming... ;) Do you have
NB> "non-essentials" in the computer room that can be packed mid-process,
NB> or is it all things that have to wait for the final move...?

I've done some of the books but it's hard accessing some of the areas
right now. A lot will have to wait until Steve moves some of the
computer equipment.

NB> NB>> And you have the luxury of not having to move out immediately

RH> That was the intent but we hope to be all out and have the place
RH> cleaned out/up by the middle of December.

NB> That's still not an immediate move... :) And unless you have someone
NB> raring to be in the old place by then, you'll have some flex there,
 NB> still, too... :)

Working on it, had anothe viewer this afternoon.

NB> NB>> functional, so they aren't likely to die overnight. Dunno if we
NB> could NB>> get replacements for them, but Richard's quite ingenious
 NB> at devising NB>> solutions... ;)

RH> Bubble gum, bailing twine and coat hangers? Checking out antique
RH> stores for stoves like yours? (G)

NB> So far it's been looking for parts locally, and then online... and
NB> doing some creative adjustments to a part that was close to but not
NB> exactly a replacement... ;) He's used the "spit and paper clips"
NB> type of repairs on other things... like the electronic organ our
 NB> church used to own...

Sometimes the best parts are those that are just cobbled together. (G)

NB> RH>> True, she never made the "leap" in learning.
NB> NB>> For some that was an uncrossable chasm... or at least felt like
 NB> it.

RH> And if the mind is beginning to fade, the chasm is wider.

NB> If it was already uncrossable, the mind beginning to fade wouldn't
NB> really make any difference... one foot or mile too far isn't any worse
NB> really than one inch too far... ;)

Can't jump the Grand Canyon in 2 leaps. (G)

NB> computer, he's playing Free Cell. NB>> That can be addicting... and
NB> he probably doesn't have the energy he NB>> used to, physical or
 NB> possibly even mental...

RH> From what Don says, it's both physical and mental. He's still mentally
RH> sharper than Mom but has his own issues to deal with.

NB> As one would be expecting, given his age... And sometimes the acuity
NB> is still there, but it just seems to be too much trouble to use it...

Hard to tell since we're not up there that often.

NB> RH>> It'll be a few weeks before the kitchen is in order. I'm hoping
NB> to RH>> have everything basically in place by Christmas, fine tuning
NB> RH>> placements over the rest of the time we're in the house.
 NB> NB>> That sounds like a possible timeline. ;) Fine-tuning is
 NB> NB>> ongoing... :)

RH> Especially as we've got long range plans for what we want to do. Steve
RH> asked if I wanted a walk in panty eventually--definate yes there.

NB> (That is "pantRy"? [g]) That'll definitely ease up storage... What

That too. (G)

NB> used to be a walk-in pantry in this house got turned into a downstairs
NB> bathroom back in the 50s (along with other remodelings), convenient in
NB> its own right, but there are times I wish it was a pantry still... :)

Win some, lose some. Nice to have a second bathroom but at the expense
of a larger pantry can be hard. My grandmother's house never had a
proper pantry--she had a nice looking free standing unit that was in the
kitchen tho. Some friends of ours in PA have the only one I've seen
similar, but their's was built into an exsisting closet.
