NB>> One does hope. The Williamsport store could be a isolated case...
ML> And it's mostly the produce department that I have issues
ML> with. The meat and seafood aren't as well-stocked as the ones
ML> in the true east, but one can always get enough good stuff.

I've been in that store exactly once, when my niece traveling with me
HAD to stop and get something to eat (probably hit the ladies' room,
too)... it was essentially still on the route, so we went in, I sat at a
little table in the cafe area while she ran around doing her thing. Had
I known it would be a topic of conversation, I might have wandered about
a bit... (G) Usually I just follow my usual modus o and make no stops
along the way... driven by that store a zillion times... ;)

 ML> Funny thing - this second-rank Weggie's gets busloads
ML> tourists every day - the people from Russia, Central Europe,
ML> China, and even Japan have never seen anything quite so wonderful.

Even that Weggie's has a fairly large footprint... and is a not too bad
representation of the phenomena... ;)

ML> I am told secondhand that the Japanese tourists actually like
ML> the sushi (which I turn my nose up at).

Maybe they are being excessively polite...? :)

NB> Does Costco maybe put their grocery section more front and center than
NB> BJ's or Sam's...? Over the years it's seemed to me that the food part
NB> was more of an afterthought at BJ's
ML> As I recall it's spread out with nonperishables at one side
ML> and perishables in the wayback. It's a fairly large section
ML> (modest selection, lots of merchandise).

As Dale has even more thoroughly explained... so I still wonder why it
would be on the list, then... :)

NB>> That one made me wonder... among other things, why not Lori's?
NB>> Although, I do realize that Lori's is truly a niche store, and for one
NB>> thing doesn't have any fresh meat, though they have organic produce
NB>> and dairy and plenty of frozen offerings...
ML> I'm not familiar with Lori's. What I know by that name is a
ML> diner in California that serves mediocre at best food.

It's a very nice natural foods store, locally owned/operated... have to
put that on list of places to go when you're here... :) It's where I go
for my snack stuff, primarily.

NB>> But the pure arbitrariness makes sense... ;)
ML> I'm guessing that the journalist (fantasist, actually)
ML> who compiled the list lives in Missoula and is trying to
ML> get some free stuff out of this.

I'd not be surprised... :)

NB>> I am, of course, less well traveled than you, but I've never had
NB>> any problems with the water in any of Great Britain...
ML> I don't recall much, a bit of queasiness in Scotland that
ML> was easily remedied by the local "strong water."

Don't remember even any problems in Scotland... spent time in Glasgow,
staying with friends, the first time there; B&B's in Edinburgh, Perth,
Peebles, Haddington subsequently... I remember that the trains supplied
bottled water.

 NB>> My only problem
NB>> was getting an English flu I had absolutely no immunuty to

ML> Yeah, the immune issue is real. Fly over there, don't get
ML> enough sleep, drink too much, and kapow, you're a virus
 ML> nightclub.

Only loss of sleep was the flight over, that time. I arrived directly
at my sister's house, and the next morning was sicker 'n a dog.. they'd
just gotten over that flu, and apparently there were plenty of germs
left around to attack... :) Good thing was that it kicked in my
sister's nursing instincts, and in caring for me she forgot that she
resented every bit of me for being the oldest sister... I was there, on
her invite, to be of assistance for a fortnight, but the underlying
current had been there for decades... the flu knocked it out, at least
mostly (it only reappeared, much reduced, some years later)...

ML>> but someday out of sheer orneriness I might try
ML>> the tap water experiment starting in Hong Kong and maybe
ML>> ending up in Bangkok (notoriously dirty). While I'm still
 ML>> generally healthy of course.
NB>> It could be an interesting experiment... you probably should have a
NB>> companion with you, in case sheer orneriness isn't enough to protect,
ML> Problem is that Lilli is much more prone to that kind of
ML> concern than am I, and if I got sick, she'd already be
 ML> incapacitated.

Ah, but... her incapacitation wouldn't be from drinking the tap water,
just from the exposure to the surroundings... right...? But, yes, I
hear you there... ;) As a famous songwriter has sung, Don't drink the
water, don't breathe the air... ;0
