=========================
Hi Michael,

ML> I presume that use of hearing protection is more
ML> widespread these days - not that it'll do any good
RH> It wasn't possible for him to do his job and wear hearing protection.

ML> Since the '70s at least there have been ear protections
ML> that attenuate louder noises but allow speech and soft
ML> sounds to be heard. These were always pretty expensive,
ML> and I guess one might not have expected the army to
ML> pay for them - though the manufacturer, Norton, was a
 ML> military contractor.

I never saw Steve with anything but the standard Army issue ear plugs.
It's possible they gave him others, but don't think so as he does have
hearing loss from his time in service. He also has tinnitus, forget what
pitch he said he has. (G)

ML> after the people crank up their car radios and
ML> i-whatevers to the max for years on end.
RH> And in doing so, ruin not only their hearing, but everybody else's
 RH> within ear shot.

ML> Luckily short-term exposure usually causes only
ML> short-term damage. One other effect of that thumping
ML> bass is ... impotence. So one can look forward to the
ML> next generation of these people being less numerous.

Could be, we'll see in years to come. I still hear/see/feel too many car
stereos cranked up beyond reasonable.

RH> I guess I might need to try a better quality of white, but think I
RH> would still prefer a dark chocolate.
ML> If you can't be with the one you love, ... .
RH> I know, I usually resort to milk chocolate in those instances.

ML> I'm not a milk chocolate person; I hope that your
ML> milk product is at least imported.

Depends on where I am when the urge hits. The last few years we've
stocked dark chocolate so I've not had to resort to milk chocolate.

ML> I bring them various places, especially in the wintertime
ML> after I've visited the factory store for its annual eat
ML> all you can and get 10% off purchases open house. This
RH> Sounds like a good deal to me. (G)

ML> So I stay with this conductor friend who lives a mile from
ML> the factory, do a bunch of gigs, and spend the money on the
 ML> chocolate.

Can't beat the deal there.

ML> year I spent $216 - all my Christmas shopping, pretty much.
RH> That's more shopping than I've done so far.

ML> I gave a ladyfriend a pair of earrings and will buy dinner
ML> at Black's BBQ for Lilli. That's the entire rest of it I
ML> think. I underbought on the chocolate, so if I see the
ML> Shipps before springtime, I'll have to bring them something
 ML> else.

Don't know when we'll get up to MD again. I'm half expecting a trip to
NY (maybe 2 or 3) will be in the not too distant future so might stop on
our way up or down.

RH> We like TR too but went to the local place for prime rib on Friday
 RH> night.

ML> Good food, good value. If the local place does the job,
 ML> by all means.

They do a very good prine rib, and enough of a portion so I end up
taking some home for another meal or 2. They give choice of potato
(mashed or baked) and a fresh veggie mix with it. I usually get a side
salad, eat that and all my veggies, plus about half the meat and baked
potato. They need a good bread of some sort to go with the meal.

ML> Speaking of which, Annie says she hates chains, but two
ML> days ago Bill took us to Margaritaville, where I discovered
 ML> that 1. Annie likes this particular chain; 2. I don't like
 ML> chains; 3. I can't stand Jimmy Buffett's out-of-tune singing.

Sounds like I wouldn't care for it either, thanks for the warning. (G)

ML> P.S. I just went to Facebook for the first time since
ML> Thanksgiving to see if she'd posted any more vegan
ML> recipes and discovered on her status a few hours ago
ML> that she had pork tenderloin for dinner.
RH> Sounds like she's not leaning too far towards vegan-ism.

 ML> Heh, heh.

Going over to the dark side.......................

Catch you later,
