ML>> I can see that this mechanism might be helpful for kids and the

NB>> I think there's now a version of the pump that checks the glucose

 NB>> It's still not something that I'd go for, I don't think... ;)
ML> Is there really a necessity for pinpoint accuracy,
ML> anyway? Eventually the docs will figure out that
ML> micromanaging the numbers doesn't work, plus it
 ML> annoys the pig.

Probably less necessity than the docs think... I have noticed that there
seems to be more reliance on the A1C lately, which is going the opposite
direction, looking at the long-term... Based on that, my doctor decided
that he didn't have to worry about the fact that my fasting BG is 1
point over the proper range... ;) He's moved me back off the pre-too
sweet list...

ML>> For me, dietary solutions didn't work. Low-dose metformin
ML>> worked to my satisfaction but not that of the doc; doubling
ML>> the dose probably has helped the numbers but worsened my
ML>> quality of life and the atmosphere around me.
 NB>> Numbers aren't everything....
ML> Indeed. Those especially on the airplane who endure my
 ML> own emissions.

So maybe either the doc has to change, or you need a different doc
still...

NB>> Natural meds take longer to show results.... and probably have more
NB>> than a little synergy associated with them..
ML> I wonder why. Maybe dosage related?

Or at least a subset of that... Certainly they come in a less extracted
form, generally... less concentrated... On the other hand, they are
less likely to produce the nasty side effects... and often contain other
things that balance out what might have produced bad effects, and that
might also be useful for making things better...

NB>> Nature's Way has a Blood Sugar supplement that includes a lot more
NB>> than cinnamon, though that is one of the major components thereof...

ML> Fenugreek is also often cited.

That's another one in there... along with bitter melon, and a bunch
more... I was getting it for MJ, don't have any here in the house, or I
could look up the ingredients... ;)

ML>> It's a search that yields only a single result on Google.
ML>> Sometimes there's a restriction that the search itself
ML>> consist of a single word. I didn't know the name of the
ML>> phenomenon until Weller enlightened me a couple years ago.
NB>> That's what I thought you meant. :) After I asked you, Richard did a
NB>> search on it and came up with a slightly different restriction, that
NB>> the search consist of two words within quotes, and only yield a single
 NB>> result on Google...
ML> Like rounders vs. baseball vs. softball, same basic game,
 ML> different rules.

Yup.

ML>> Maybe also makes more market for the nurses.
NB>> Maybe, except there's still plenty for the nurses, both LPN and RN, to
 NB>> do on their visits...
ML> As one increases the number of things that require professional
ML> nursing, the market for nurses increases, which makes the
 ML> agencies more commission.

It backfires, though, as there aren't enough nurses to supply the
demand, and the agencies are probably being paid through Medicaid anyway
much of the time... ;)

ML>> At MGH it was mostly the aides who did this stuff. But
ML>> perhaps they are more rigorously trained than the ones
 ML>> hired by the agencies.
NB>> Hospital patient techs do have a different training than the home
NB>> health aides... and probably different rules, too... :)
ML> I suppose, but I had everyone and his grandma doing the
ML> finger sticks and giving insulin, which I didn't need,
ML> taking blood pressure and temperature, which I didn't
ML> need, and changing my dressings, which I needed but
 ML> could do myself.

I know... hospitals are definitely frustrating places...

 ML>> That was the issue with the young woman of whom I spoke;
ML>> she had to bootstrap herself and of course ended up doing
ML>> very well, but if the method had been refined then to the
ML>> degree that it later was, a lot of tsouris would have
 ML>> been avoided.
 NB>> Quite so.
ML> It has been noted that a student with enough talent to
ML> go pro is going to find a way of succeeding no matter what
ML> the pedagogical framework. She had plenty of talent.

And apparently enough drive to want to go for it.. :)

ML> Out of curiosity I looked at tsuris vs. tsouris in Google.
 ML> As of today, 109000 vs. 107000.

Out of curiosity I looked for either in my dictionaries... Only found
tsuris in my Scrabble dictionary... along with variants tsooris, tsores,
tsoris, tsorriss, but not tsouris... Not found at all in the crossword
dictionary, or either of my websters... ;)

NB>>> of the people I know who've taken them have had problems with them,
NB>>> and temporary or permanent damage from them.
ML>> They're poison, but it'll take centuries for them to figure
 ML>> that out.
NB>> Because at the moment, all they see are what they consider to be
 NB>> success stories...
ML> And the perks that the drug companies give.

That's supposed to be phased out... so as to reduce the pressure.... of
course, it's probably just done more quietly now... ;) But as to
success stories, Richard's cardiologist was citing his father, a GP, as
having far fewer heart cases since the statins were being used...
practically a miracle drug... ;0

ML>> So I've heard. But studying women in the medical research
ML>> sense was a neglected field until very recently.
 NB>> Indeed.
ML> A lot more can be done to personalize medical care, especially
ML> with all that computing power available. It'll take a while.

Probably a long while...

ttyl neb

... His muse is not fettered by such inhibiting factors as taste.
