=======================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> And there was all the stuff to pack... Now it's just the
NB> plodding NB>> through of unpacking all the boxes and getting them all
 NB> stowed away NB>> properly... ;)

RH> It's coming along, but I took a day out for my QoV group. Back to the
 RH> unpacking tomorrow.

NB> Good... things are getting back in the normal patterns... :)

As we find things and get them into their proper places, yes we are. I'm
doing some cooking, but not very fancy stuff at the moment.

NB> RH>> recipies but it's also fun making your own versions of them.
NB> NB>> Something like that. :) Some things are easier imitated than
NB> NB>> others... some are better when someone else makes them... (G)

RH> That's why I make some, leave others to experts.

NB> Most I leave to experts, or don't worry about the inaccuracies... :)

I try some new things, some I keep trying until I perfect, others I give
up and let the pros do them.

NB> NB>> And besides, you had an unplanned (even if somewhat expected
NB> sometime) NB>> trip in the middle of things.. :) Now you can settle
NB> in and make NB>> some nice winter comfort food.. ;)

RH> Yes, now that winter is settling in. We're expecing freezing rain in
RH> the area tonight into tomorrow, probably snow in the western part of
RH> the state. Typical January weather.

NB> I prefer snow to freezing rain... We're getting pretty typical
NB> January weather too... snow and cold temps... also windier than usual,
NB> so lower wind chills, but that's not that uncommon really... :)

We're going to have some rain tomorrow, then turn decent until Friday.
I'm going to make the sauerbraten this coming week tho, nothing big
coming up so I'll have the time to do it.

NB> out of RH>> venison and several of my siblings didn't like her
NB> version. It was ok, RH>> not great, but not on the level I've had it
NB> since, both in Germany and RH>> in German restaurants here in the

 NB> NB>> From what you've said, she wasn't a particularly confident
NB> cook.. NB>> easily discouraged when others didn't like things.. :)
NB> So not as NB>> likely to keep trying until she got it to be good...
 NB> :)

RH> Dad was/is a picky eater so that she cooked to his tastes. She might
RH> have been a bit more willing to try cooking new things if he were
RH> more willing to eat them.

NB> I suppose that she might have been more willing even if he was at
NB> least somewhat encouraging of her so that she might get it to
 NB> something he'd
 NB> be happier with...

Possibly, but we'll never know now.

RH> I gave her my MIL's lasagne/meatballs recipe but a couple of years
RH> later, she asked me how to make it. She'd tried putting the
RH> meatballs in with the lasagne, and, it didn't come out as she thought
RH> it should. I made it properly, meatballs on the side, but I doubt she
 RH> ever tried it again.

NB> As I said, not that confident a cook...

Especially if it was out of her comfort zone, as Italian was.

NB> RH>> I found a good recipe some years ago and have stuck with it; the
NB> RH>> red cabbage I do as a side comes from a Bavarian cook book Steve
NB> RH>> was given when he did a 3 month temporary duty in Augsburg.
NB> NB>> And you've done them both enough probably to have made them your
 NB> NB>> own, as well.... :)

RH> Probably a pretty fair presumption at this point.

 NB> I figured as much.... ;)

And I'll be making some next week, got a nice little cabbage today at
Lowe's.

NB> NB>> Which reminds me... I've found a nice little German restaurant
NB> here NB>> in town... It's actually a German butcher shop that
NB> branched out to NB>> serve lunch... (snip) I believe they are
NB> only open for lunch, NB>> though, so a visit there would have to take
 NB> that into account... :)

RH> Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, have to give it a try next time we're in the area.

NB> I thought that might perk you up a bit... ;)

RH> Was it a really sweet red cabbage or a sweet/sour sort?

NB> Somewhat sweet/sour... very tasty and went well with the sauerbraten
NB> and German potato salad... the potato salad was mushier than I've
NB> ever had, not so much defined potato slices, but very nice all the
 NB> same.

OK, sounds like the red cabbage is a winner, potato salad, jury is still
out on it.

Catch you later,
