=======================
Hi Nancy,

NB> organized, NB>> and the kitchen all set to rights... and clear enough
NB> to be able to NB>> deal with the fancy stuff.. :)

RH> I had to do something fancy tho, so did the sauerbraten. Had enough
RH> leftovers for 3 meals (just need to cook noodles or spaezle or
RH> similar, fresh), now in the freezer in individual packages.

NB> You just get the itch to do something fancy after a while, eh...?

Yes, I had to scratch that itch.

NB> Well, you had been talking about doing the sauerbraten this winter for
 NB> a
NB> while, after all... ;) And now you have something special tucked
NB> away for later meals... :)

Yes, and it will taste good. Now's the time of year I need to pull out
the eggplant parm I made last summer and have it. I also did some
eggplant slices--breaded and fried but IQfed.

NB> RH>> I try some new things, some I keep trying until I perfect,
NB> others I RH>> give up and let the pros do them.
NB> NB>> Sometimes that's just the best way to do it... ;)

RH> All depends on how much you want to master (or not) making a certain
RH> dish or cuisine. Most Asian cooking I leave to others but will do a
RH> "knock your socks off" lasagne or sauerbraten for example.

NB> You've decided to master a few more things than I have, for sure... ;)
NB> Even my congee I readily admit isn't particularly accurate... but it
NB> is pretty good even so... :)

That's a different realm for me. I probably could do a decent job of it
but we don't generally eat it so I probably won't make it. OTOH, I just
thought of the baked oatmeal our friends in PA made--weather's cold
enough, I will probably do it next week.

NB> RH>> I'm going to make the sauerbraten this coming week tho, nothing
NB> big RH>> coming up so I'll have the time to do it.
NB> NB>> And time to enjoy the eating of it, as well... :)

RH> We had nothing on the agenda last night so I did it after I came home
RH> from quilting. Early tomorrow morning Steve is going to put a Boston
RH> Butt on the smoker so it will be done before he has a 6pm committment.

NB> That will get something else done for the freezer stocking up, along
NB> with a nice meal for now... :)

That was part of the intent. Steve smoked a Boston Butt on Thursday--we
nibbled off part of it but today I put 6 meals in the freezer, left
enough out for another meal. Yesterday I repackaged some chicken breast
pieces I'd gotten on a BOGO sale at Lowe's; they're in the freezer. One
breast half (they're big!) will be good for a stir fry for the 2 of us.

RH> And Dad will never learn to appreciate something like curry.

NB> Probably not... Always a slim possibility that he might surprise you,
NB> but pretty unlikely now, to be sure... :)

Chances of him trying it are slim to none and slim is out of town right
now.

RH> None of us kids challenged her cooking (while growing up) either. That
RH> might have made a differnce, had we done so. In all probability, most
RH> likely not, however. Instead, we all went our own direction, cooking
RH> wise. I suspect I cook the most variety of cuisines of all my
 RH> siblings. (G)

NB> Probably wouldn't have made much of a difference... kids don't
NB> generally get away with too much challenging parents' cooking
 NB> anyway... hard
NB> enough when we're all adults to change their eating habits when they
 NB> need to be... ;)

Which is why my siblings tend to cook a lot like Mom did. A few flashes
of doing something different but overall, not many. Having lived in so
many differnt cultural cuisines, we've adapted our tastes to be a lot
different than 1950s home cooking.

NB> RH>> And I'll be making some next week, got a nice little cabbage
 NB> today RH>> at Lowe's.
NB> NB>> To go along with the sauerbraten... sounds really nice... :)

RH> It made enough for the meal last night and just enough extra to put up
RH> for the 3 more meals of sauerbraten. Usually the cabbages I find make
RH> enough for twice that number of meals--Lowe's had the big ones in the
RH> regular produce section but the smaller ones in the organic section.
RH> Paid about the same or maybe less, for a smaller organic as opposed to
RH> a larger, non organic red cabbage.

NB> That works.. :) I like getting the smaller cabbages as well... :)

It's better for 2 people. Got a smaller one at the farmer's market a few
weeks ago but it was still big enough for cole slaw for several meals
for us.

NB> NB>> It still had a good taste to it. Probably an authentic
NB> variant.. ;) NB>> And there's other choices for sides, too...

RH> Do they have spaezle? We'll have to check them out!

NB> I don't remember... possibly... definitely they have noodles... :)
NB> Our list of places is growing... (G)

And your taste buds are learning to appreciate more of a variety of
things as well.

Catch you later,
