Presumably not if he had a cold or something. Under
ordinary circumstances I don't see why not. Some people
that behavior grosses out, for others, it's no big deal.

I went not so long ago to a tasting of most of the menu
items at Jose Andres's newest restaurant - fashionable to
the extreme, costly, so with a very affluent clientele.
Our table of 8 ranged from 25 to 75, with me being the
least wealthy and possibly the second least travelled
(there was a girl in the corner I didn't talk to much).
None of the dishes served at China Chilcano is big -
they suggest getting 2 or 3 a person, but I'd suggest
going by dollar cost, as the pricing largely reflects
how big a dish is, and I'd say go for $35 in food and
almost the same in booze. Anyhow, I prefer smaller
plates in greater number, so my suggestions sometimes
were not so shareable. For example, the $9 pork bun was
the size of a $2 pork bun at a regular restaurant (and
available in the stalls for 50c to $1), though arguably
of somewhat higher quality (kurobuta pork belly, that
sort of thing). Anyhow, one doesn't want to order
multiples of these babies, as one's budget would break,
but the thing wasn't suitable for splitting in the
normal way - plus they don't offer knives! -, so the
solution here and for a couple of the other dishes was
for everyone to take a bite and pass the rest on.
Nobody was grossed out.

I responded to this post mostly because I had just run
into the following recipe and was chuckling over it -

Lamb Yam Curry Stew
categories: stews, main, Indianish
servings: 6 to 8

1 Tb peanut oil 
2 lb lean lamb stew meat 
3 lg onions, coarsly chopped
1 c sliced carrot
1 lg green bell pepper, chopped
2 Tb ground cumin
1 ts curry powder
1/2 ts ground turmeric 
44 oz (3 cn) diced tomatoes, drained
1 lg yam or sweet potato, cubed
15 1/2 oz cn chickpeas, drained
14 1/2 oz cn chicken broth
1 ts salt
1/4 ts freshly ground black pepper 

In a Dutch oven, heat oil over a medium-high heat.
Add lamb and cook until browned, about 5 min. Stir
in onions, carrot, bell pepper, cumin, curry, and 
turmeric and cook another 5 min. Stir in remaining
ingredients. Bring to a boil, then cover, reduce
heat, and simmer for 35 min. Uncover, then simmer
another 30 min.
