=======================
Hi Nancy,

NB> updated as NB>> things are used or replaced, doesn't take all that
NB> much.... But with NB>> all you have going right now, there really
NB> isn't enough time etc for NB>> the initial list... I understand...
 NB> :)

RH> Probably next time I defrost it, whenever that will be. (G) I usually
RH> do a different sheet for each category--prepared meals, raw meats,
RH> sides, fruits & veggies, misc other, etc.

NB> I do similarly... The specifics, I often do in ink, and then how many
NB> is in penciled tally marks... the latter can be erased when used and
NB> put back there when replaced... :)

I do it all in ink but cross or blot out the tally marks as things are
used, write in new or replacement items. And usually a date, if nowhere
else, on the box or bag.

NB> needed. NB>> And with a limited income, one would have to plan out
NB> the expense NB>> outlay, even if it did save money in the long run...
 NB> ;)

RH> Very true, we've had, for the most part, just one income. I worked
RH> part time for a few years in Germany, helped finance some of the extras
RH> we were able to do. My sewing doesn't bring in that much income so
RH> Steve lets me keep it for whatever I want--my "pin (replacement)
 RH> money".

NB> Most of the time it's only been Richard's income here... and my piano
NB> teaching was little enough that it was "pin money" for me, too... :)
NB> Haven't even had that for the last decade...

I've had some the past few years but had enough times when I didn't have
any separate income. It's not much but it lets me replace fabric, get a
splurge something that I don't want to spend "our household" money on,
or other.

NB> NB>> We bought our freezer within the first year or so of moving into
NB> the NB>> house... second major appliance, after replacing the fridge
 NB> that died

RH> We bought our first one when Rachel was about 6 months old--couldn't
RH> get credit from Sears so my FIL actually bought it, we paid him back. A
RH> couple of years later, out of the blue, Sears offered us a card. (G)

NB> That's probably about the time that the department stores were all
NB> actively seeking new credit customers...

They'd moved from a plaza store to the brand new mall in Jacksonville
(NC) and probably wanted new customers. We'd done a crib set on layaway,
which is how they probably got our name and phone number.

NB> NB>> soon after we bought the house and moved in... We've found good
NB> use NB>> for it over the years... changing with the changes of life,
 NB> but still NB>> quite useful... ;)

RH> They are big (!) help. My parents got their first one when I was in
RH> college. Mom had canned a lot before, but then switched to freezing
 RH> more veggies.

NB> My parents never did get just a freezer, but they did have an extra
NB> fridge with freezer in the basement...

Every little bit helps with a big family.

NB> NB>> We've replaced that first fridge since, but everything
NB> NB>> else is still working well enough, so still what we started
 NB> with...

RH> Even that old stove that is like the one I learned to cook on, with
RH> the push buttons? That was modern technology when Dad put it in the
 RH> house, in late 1956. (G)

NB> Yup, even the old stove... The dishwasher (portable) was somewhat on
NB> it's last legs, although still working, when we stopped using it a
NB> couple decades ago, after the fire... It was also 50's technology...
NB> :) In our remodeling after the fire, we lost the ability to hook it up
NB> to a sink easily, so it became mostly just another surface... ;)

Sometimes having an extra surface is handier than anything else. We were
tight in the house on Pearce, don't have that much more now but enough
that we feel like there's a lot more.

Catch you later,
Ruth
