===========================
Hi Nancy,

NB> a part NB>> of the meal than exactly dessert... it was a bit of a
NB> pull together NB>> quickly, after coming home a bit late from doing
NB> laundry... :) At NB>> least I'd prepared the strawberries earlier...
 NB> :)

RH> We don't always do dessert so berries would have worked for us as
 RH> well.

NB> Dessert is a sometimes thing for us, too... more often a bit of ice
NB> cream or a cookie to round out a lighter meal, but once in a while, an
 NB> intended treat.... :)

We just had a chunk of oatmeal raisin cookie, well, Steve probably had
several chuncks tonight. Supper was smoked pork in baslama bread, 3 bean
salad and home made potato & zuchinni chips. Zuchinni were done in a 450
oven for half an hour, topped with parm cheese. Potato were done in the
microwave.

RH> I can do laundry at home; the new set up is in the hall. The
RH> washer and dryer in the old place were in the kitchen; we'd very often
RH> have lunch to the "music" of the machines.

NB> Ours was in the basement... that was fine, until first the washer had
NB> issues, and then the drain for the set tub that it drained into
NB> decided to clog and the tub started to leak... plus it was more than I
 NB> could
NB> handle by myself anyway, so we got into the habit of just taking it
NB> all to the laundromat every few weeks or so.... get it all done at
 NB> once...
NB> and have some extra "together" time... ;)

I understand, we did it "out" once a week until my folks bought a washer
for us when I was expecting Rachel. I do some wash every few days when
we're home so it doesn't build into an impossible pile. OTOH, it's less
frequent while travelling so it's usually 3-4 loads (or more) at a time.

NB> NB>> High school, but actually private lessons... billed as a Senior
 NB> NB>> Recital... :)

 RH> Home schooled?

NB> Yes, she's the youngest of the Archer Home School... my sister taught
NB> all of her kids, with some enrichment courses from various sources...
NB> the kids were able to participate in the local schools sports and
NB> music programs as they were interested...

Sounds good, I'm not sure what the NC rules for that are. In GA, friends
were part of a home school co-op that had sports, music, some of the
advanced classes, clubs, etc as a group. They even had a combined
graduation ceremony.

RH> One of the ladies in our church gives private flute
RH> lessons, and plays on Sunday mornings as part of the praise ensemble.

NB> My niece has joined our church's praise ensemble, too... it's only
 NB> once a month...

We have it as a regular part of worship, and a small special vocal music
ensmble at Christmas & Easter.

RH> so simple,................................. We needed more ingredients
RH> during the reception for a couple at our church here so I asked
RH> another couple to get some. I didn't need to take the time out to write
RH> out a shopping list either.

NB> Simple can be good, too... :) But sometimes a little complexity is
NB> nice, too... :) I ended up buying twice as much as we actually needed
NB> for my niece's reception... so Lydia took a bunch home after... but we
NB> didn't run out of materials... ;) BTW, I misremembered on the
 NB> Welch's... it wasn't Welch's Orchard (as I think now, I think that
NB> might have apple in it intentionally), it was the new Welch's 100%
 NB> juice
NB> Farmer's Pick. The Blackberry flavor is made from grape, pear and
NB> blackberry juices. The Mixed Berry flavor, though, has apple in it...

OK, as long as the it tasted good (sounds like it did) and meets your no
apple requirements. We had extra for Rachel's wedding (food also) so
donated the extras to a shelter for battered women. They said it was one
of their nicer donations.

NB> NB>> I did a "golden" version of it for my parents'
NB> NB>> 50th wedding anniversary party... used juices that combined to
NB> be NB>> a nice golden color, and frozen peaches as the fruit... :)

RH> Nice! I don't remember what we did for my parent's 50th but for their
RH> 60th, we had catered. We worked at the 50th celebration, keeping the
RH> punch bowl and cookie trays full, etc. For the 60th, we were at the
RH> house for all but the last few minutes as we were entertaining some of
RH> the relatives who'd showed up there, before going to the Legion Hall.

NB> It can be a lot of work, for sure... At least we have lots of us to
NB> do the work, and I think we had some help in the kitchen from some of

For the 50th, it was Steve, me and my brothers doing the work; my
sisters spent the time socialising with everybody. The last half hour or
so of the open house, Steve shooed me out of the kitchen so I could
visit with some of the colks. We had the 60th events (open house and
dinner) catered.

 NB> our
NB> church family for both the 50th and their 60th. What would have been
NB> their 61st turned into Daddy's memorial service, so the church ladies
NB> put on the reception afterwards...

Bittersweet memories but good that the church ladies were able to be of
help. We had lunch at the Advent Christian church after my brother's
memorial service but before Mom's burial--a small enough group that the
pastor's wife handled the serving of food we'd had brought in. Lefotvers
(a good amount) were donated for the church's fellowship meal the next
day.
