=======================
Hi Michael,

ML> steer and have a hamburger sandwich - a patty between two
 ML> more patties.
RH> That's going a bit too far in your direction. I like protein but not
RH> quite to that extent. I also don't mind a certain amount of carbs. In

ML> I try to go all the way in my direction, and I don't find
ML> it excessive for me (obviously). But today I had three

I try to keep somewhat of a balance, but it's easier said than done
sometimes.

ML> pieces of chicken, a couple rice cakes, an ear of corn,
ML> a sweet potato, a lot of fresh fruit, and a beer. Not
ML> very much like me; I pretty much prefer the extreme
ML> protein diet with an occasional dose of fruit.

I've been pushing the higher potassium fruits (and other foods) the past
week or so. I tend to run a bit low but think that was what bottomed out
last week and gave me a rough time for a couple of days. Had a nuclear
stress test on the heart yesterday, got word today that all was clear
there. After the test and a run over to Whole foods, we had lunch at our
favorite Korean place in Raleigh. Steve had the spicy squid, I had beef
bulgogi, both with various small sides including a couple of small
pieces of sushi, fried sweet potato, yaki mandu, kim chee, seaweed, etc.

RH> the case of a meal like the above, I'd have one (or two) burgers on
RH> one bun and a few of the fries or skip the fries and have a salad in
 RH> their place.

ML> On the other hand, I'd gladly sacrifice fries and in fact
ML> did not get them in the meal described earlier. But a few
ML> weeks ago I got a steak hache frites hold the frites, and
ML> the frites came anyway, an enormous cone of them. I ate two
ML> or three, and that did me for the next month. Unfortunately,
ML> I was at table with my friends Paul and Patricia, and Paul
ML> got the same thing, and Patricia, who is a vegan, got the
ML> vegan creme Andalouse and - being out of my earshot when
ML> she ordered, ordered another cone of fries, so we ended up
ML> with three of these, of which approximately one and a half
 ML> got eaten.

So did you pack them up and take them home or leave them on the table?

RH> I probably could have handled one bun, with two burgers, as I
RH> suggested, or maybe two burgers, no bun. The side benefit to one or no
RH> buns would be the carb savings.

ML> The main benefit of one or no buns is that you don't have
ML> to eat all that crummy bread. I admit that there is such a
ML> thing as good bread, but burger buns ain't it.

True, true. I tried making buns a few times but it was more trouble than
it was worth at the time. Might try it again, now that I don't have
babies or toddlers to run after

ML> Indeed. In'n'Out offers the protein style, in which the
ML> bun is replaced by a big lettuce leaf; Five Guys just
ML> plops a naked burger in a cardboard dish and says, there.
ML> The only reason why Mickey's doesn't thus appease the
ML> Atkinsites is that it's doubtful whether the average
ML> McDonald's labor force could cope with such customization.
RH> I've found they can cope with leaving the cheese (?) slice off the
RH> fish sandwich. Maybe that takes less thought?

ML> Surely. The imagination required to put a burger in a
ML> fries carton or a whole lettuce leaf (not to mention
ML> the issue of where in a McDonald's one would find a
ML> whole lettuce leaf) is beyond many, certainly beyond
ML> those who write staff guidelines for that company.

Don't know where you will find a place other than Chick-Fil-A that uses
anything but shredded lettuce. I prefer the leaf over the shredded
stuff as it doesn't fall out all ob=ver the place (as the bun is falling
apart).

ML> I'm also not a white meat person.
RH> OTOH, it's my preference, as long as it's not dried out.
ML> Which it so often is.
RH> Sometimes so, sometimes not. Depends on who's cooking, how much
RH> attention is paid when cooking.

ML> I admit that when I cook white meat it's generally
ML> pretty juicy and pretty medium-rare, but I still
ML> don't eat it by preference.

OK, I'll trade you my dark for your (juicy) white meat.

ML> Speaking of imagination, or lack thereof -

 ML> Teriyaki Chicken for One
 ML> cat: main
 ML> servings: 1

 ML> 1/2 chicken breast
ML> 1/4 c Soy Vay Veri Veri Teriyaki

Add tasteless to the description too, looks like it would fit.
