=============
Hi Nancy,

NB> the RH>> church picnic (and more sewing) so the freezer will wait
 NB> until next RH>> week.
NB> NB>> You got your ice chests back from loan then....? :)

RH> Not yet but I can improvise with boxes. Stuff won't be out that long
RH> that I'm worried about a major defrosting of everything. Then too,
RH> have to see how the rest of the week runs.

NB> And if it's fairly cool, things won't be as quick to warm up,
NB> either... I'm guessing that the freezer really doesn't need a major
 NB> defrosting
 NB> either....? :)

No, it really needs more of an inventory/reorganisation than defrosting.
But, while it's empty, might just as well get the ice out.

NB> NB>>> You'll figure it out as you go along, no doubt... :)
NB> RH>> Yes, depending on how many crusts I accumulate, how much I use
NB> the RH>> crumbs and so on, some good use will make itself known.
NB> NB>> And what you need leftover bread for... ;)

RH> We don't have much call for leftover bread as such. It either gets
RH> eaten or goes into the crumb bag

NB> I was thinking of the things you listed above... croutons, bread
NB> pudding... I crumble bread from the original bag for things like
 NB> salmon loaf... :)

OK, bread vs crumbs, I see. If I do any sort of out of the normal
crumbs, I can use them in things where I might want something with a
different flavor. Other things, I'll want the flavor of just the whole
wheat crumbs and whatever herbs/spices I add.

NB> NB>> We haven't tried to do any real composting.... but then we also
 NB> don't NB>> generate a lot of kitchen scraps anyway... ;)

RH> With all the fresh fruits & veggies we go thru, we can generate a good
RH> deal of compostable stuff in short order. We also put coffee grounds,
RH> tea bags and egg shells into it.

NB> We tend not to peel stuff, I only cut off the ends of veggies, and
NB> there aren't any coffee grounds around here... not many tea bags or
NB> eggshells either... And grass cuttings stay on the lawn to feed the
 NB> lawn, and
NB> leaves get mowed to break them up into a sort of mulch... :)

Steve has a vcouple of compost bins going so puts the grass clippings in
them. He's planning to add mowed leaves also, after he fixes the mower.
He hit a stump the other day & knocked the timing out of sync.

NB> managing to keep things RH>> running on the home front as well.
NB> NB>> Is he also on active duty...? Or with a civilian job...? She
NB> has NB>> older stepkid(s) too, doesn't she... do they help out
 NB> too...?

RH> He's a paralegal on one of the reservations in the area and coaches a
RH> Native American track team. His daughter (age 13) lives with them but
RH> his oldest son (age 17) lives with his mom. N can pick him up any time
RH> he wants but lately the kid hasn't wanted to get too involved with the
RH> family. N knows his way around a kitchen quite well so he's a big help
RH> if Deborah has to work late; she also has more of a commute than he
 RH> does.

NB> So things work out pretty well there... they can balance things out to
NB> reflect how things are playing out... :)

Overall things seem to be working out. There have been times Deborah has
had to go out of town for a military school or conference where N has
had to single parent. Nice thing now, as opposed to when I did it, is
that Skype lets them stay more connected.

Catch you later,
Ruth
