That may well be but modern technology has come up with better
grinders!

I am quite happy with the 15% rollback, on average, in prices and
completely delighted that some imported spirits came down more.

Gibson's 12 yr old Canadian rye dropped from $37 to $32 but Jim Beam
White decreased from $45 all the way to $34. For a mere $2 premium I
no longer have to hesitate buying Bourbon.

Gives me one more reason to drive over there someday.

YK resto news #2. Pierre Lepage has resurfaced as chef and general
manager of Aurora Village at Cassidy Point on Prosperous Lake, 20
minutes from town (second lake past the Yellowknife River bridge
where I took you and Lili). It is the premier winter destination for
the Japanese visitors. He seems happy to be on salary at somebody
else's place and running just one operation at a time. He seems much
healthier and less stressed.

YK resto news #3. That deal I hinted at a few months ago has closed.
A former government owned rehab centre out in the bush away from
temptation is going to be our first Chinese owned aurora viewing
centre, catering to the fast growing Chinese tourism market. Instead
of taking a bus out for the evening, the tourists can sleep over in
a 5 star (after the renovations which will cost about five times as
much as the acquisition) boutique hotel with a gourmet kitchen
featuring wild game and local fish. Being outside of any organised
municipality there are no zoning restrictions or building codes so
expect a BYOB club and perhaps a registered guests only casino.

YK resto new #4: Another deal of mine, Pierre's old L'Heritage
Restaurant is now the Irish Kilt and Castle, featuring lots of
imported draft beers, real 20 oz pints, serving wenches in micro
kilts, and vaguely Irisheque pub snacks.

YK resto news #5: And his old "Soup Pot" cafe will become a Korean
place in a few more weeks. The principals are Korean-Canadians from
Albeerta with 30 years experience in the indutry, with a wide
variety of cuisines under their belt, so I'm sure they will succeed.

(Both these new places have chartered accountants as investors and
silent partners, but they won't be involved in the day to day
operations.)

     Title: Chipotle Yams
Categories: Vegetables, Beer, Chilies, Cheese
  Servings: 4

      2    red-skinned sweet potatoes
      2 tb chipotle butter
      1 c  pumpkin ale
           grated parmesan cheese, opt

Wash, peel and cut the sweet potatoes inte bite sized pieces.  Heat
some chipotle butter, a tablespoon or two will do, in a frying pan
(I use my well seasoned, black cast iron).  Briefly saute the sweet
potatoes in the chipotle butter until they're well coated.  Pour in
a cup or so of pumpkin ale and braise the taters, uncovered, in a
375 degree F. oven until the pieces are just short of fork tender,
adding a little pumpkin ale if necessasry.  Baste the taters with
the liquid remaining in the bottom of the pan (plus additional ale
and melted chipotle butter if necessary), sprinkle on the optional
grated parmesan.

If pumpkin ale is not available, a dark, malty and not overly hopped
ale can be used.  Samuel Adams Octoberfest or Sierra Nevada
Octoberfest are good substitutes.
