I am capable of doing bigger/better things with a sewing machine. Back in the
60s I made myself a paisley Nehru jacket, lining and all that turned out
acceptably ..... and NO ONE else had one like it off the rack. Bv)=

But mostly I'll use the thing for maintenance - and maybe make myself some
curtains as needed.

RH> Salvaging buttons is good; I've got a good number from old uniforms of
RH> Steve's. I presume you're sewing on the buttons so you can use the
 RH> suspenders?

Yes'm. Those clip thingies are OK if one isn't carrying things that may trip
the latches inadvertently. But buttons are, overall, safer.

DD> Currently I am fighting with the electronic dead bolt on the front
DD> door. I suppose it's a nice idea. But, p*** poor execution. Once I got

RH> The joys of home ownership! One of the first things Steve did once we
RH> signed for this house and got the keys was to change the locks. He put
RH> in new door handles (levers, not knobs) and added a locking storm door

DD> I was always going to replace the knobs with levers. This has moved up
DD> the schedule. I prefer the levers on the entry doors for a number of
DD> reasons - mainly because if the hands are full one can open the door
DD> with an elbow or prehensile toe.

RH> We first encountered them when we lived in Germany. They are very handy
RH> but you have to watch that you don't catch a sleeve or a belt loop or
RH> similar on. That can bring you up rather short. (G) After my parents
RH> went to Germany, they replaced most of their interior door knobs with
RH> the lever type. It made life much easier for Mom in her later years
 RH> with her arthritis.

DD> I may do the interior doors - especially the one on the bathroom that
 DD> way.

RH> Good thinking. We have knobs on all the interior doors but may change
RH> them out for levers over the years. We're thinking of doing the garage
RH> addition within a year or two, probably going thru what's now the
RH> pantry, so that will be relocated, renovated and expanded. We're
RH> currently keeping some canned goods (and my empty jars) in the water
RH> heater room but if the new pantry is big enough, they will go there.
RH> Another option for some of the shelving is to stow some of our lesser
RH> used, but still want to keep relatively handy, appliances like the one
RH> we got at Aldi's last week. It's off the counter now, in our kitchen
 RH> storage cabinet.

I don't got a pantry, as such. But I may rig some shelves in the closet with
the furnace, water heater and (soon to be) double stack ovens. I do have an
attached garage - which will soon be accessible from the house. I am going to
ditch the through-the-wall AC and replace it with a door into the garage.

Discovered that I have two "lazy Susan" carousels under the counter in the
kitchen - so that's nice for canned goods and other dry storage. I'm not sure I
can get much more than a car and possibly the motorbike into the garage - so,
I'll have to find a place for the spare fridge. Probably in the computer room.
