My friend Les and I were discussing discounts at breakfast yesterday. Mostly
about Denny's 15% AARP spiff. I mentioned that it was only during certain
(slack business) hours and excluded some of the menu items. Brother Leslie
maintains a couple of databases - one for breakfast places within easy driving
distance and the other for senior and/or military/uniformed services discounts.
He emailed me the updated discount sheet - and I note that the senior discount
for Hardee's is chain wide but the military discount is "local option" and may
vary from franchisee to franchisee. Rally's/Checkers locally has been
re-acquired by the parent company - and the senior discount done away with. I
don't go there as often as I used to - partly because of that.

I'm not a fan of the maple flavour - except possibly as a smoking wood. When I
was in primary school we used to do field trips to see the trees being tapped
and the sap being cooked down. Then we'd each get a sample of either maple
sirup (local spelling) or something made of maple sugar. Even at the age of six
or seven I never could see the attraction in maple flavouring.

Huh? That's a teeny-tiny amount - even with milk and fruit in a cereal bowl it
wouldn't make a very filling breakfast. I do remember that the Grape Nuts
cereal boxes were *much* smaller than the flaked cereals - as the flakes took
up more volume for equal weights.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: First Lady Wheaties Coconut Cookies
 Categories: Cookies, Grains, Snacks
      Yield: 48 cookies

    1/2 c  Shortening
    1/2 c  Butter
      1 c  Brown sugar
      1 c  White granulated sugar
      2 lg Eggs
      2 c  Flaked coconut
  2 1/2 c  All purpose flour
      1 ts Baking soda
    1/2 ts Baking powder
           Salt
    1/2 ts Vanilla extract
      2 c  Wheaties cereal

  Preheat oven to 400oF/205oC.

  Blend shortening, butter and sugars. Add beaten eggs. Add
  coconut.

  Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and
  salt, and add to mixture. Blend in vanilla.

  Stir in the Wheaties Cereal. Roll into balls the size of a
  walnut and place on cookie sheets.

  Bake at 400oF/205oC for 12 minutes.

  Makes about 4 dozen
