Ärende: Rochester 229
=====================
Hi Michael,

RH> Enjoying your time in Rochester? We'll be in the general area in the
RH> latter half of next month.

ML> Enjoyed it a lot, and the jaunt into the Finger Lakes and
ML> to see the Fords was an extra treat.

Sounds like it was a good trip. We'll be making a quick trip, basically
checking on my parents & aunts, a quick swing out to western NY to see
Steve's siblings and a stop off in PA. We'll try to get a trip over to
Peight's while in PA to stock up on some Mennonite goodies but probably
no ham (maybe scrapple) at Peachy's.

ML> disadvantage of being unbelievably wet and shedding a ruinous
ML> quantity of water into any dish it's cooked into.
RH> What about zuchinni bread (or muffins)? it's a good way to use the
RH> squash in a less than obvious manner.

 ML> Well, it's moist, anyway.

Quite so, and makes good use of the squash.

ML> Of course, here I am jinxing myself, and I shall live in fear
ML> of being pulled out and kept in a holding tank in the airport
ML> until my lawyer can be found.
RH> Don't think about it; it probably won't happen.

ML> I was at least half joking. At Rochester and Boston, security
ML> took less than 5 minutes - at the former, there was no PreCheck
ML> (it's supposed to be instituted this week), but on the other
ML> hand, there was no line, either. In Boston, there was a line
ML> for PreCheck, because they've started admitting the general
ML> public into the program (if one pays $17 a year or something
ML> and gets a background clearance), but still the no-shoes-off
 ML> no-jacket-off no-liquids-bag-out no-computer-out procedure
 ML> takes way less time.

We generally don't fly enough in a year to make it worth our while to
pay into PreCheck. So far, since January, we've flown back from LVNV (in
January), out to LVNV in July and back in August. We've made 3 road
trips, with 2 more coming up before the end of the year. Road food is
better than (lack of) plane food. (G)

ML> By the way, I got my Global Entry card (good for a free pass
ML> at customs, but they reserve the right to do random checks to
ML> keep the fear of God in you), and it looks disappointingly
ML> unofficial, almost homemade - no mention of the issuing agency
ML> (Customs and Border Protection), no fancy eagle, in fact, the
ML> logo is an almost invisible little gold circle thingy. There
ML> is a holographic security verification that looks as though
ML> someone's primary school kid designed it. Worst of all, there's
ML> this picture of this ancient old Asian guy that looks like he
ML> is peering in a funhouse mirror. I am guessing that this is
ML> another security check, if the picture is too good, you know
ML> something is wrong. I admit, the tinfoil lined envelope that
ML> goes with looks like it will last longer than the one that holds
ML> my passport card (much fancier, with eagles and stuff all over
ML> the place, and "UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF STATE" on it),
ML> though: it says "trusted traveler voyageurs dignes de confiance
ML> viajero confiable," but still nowhere is there an indication
ML> of whose government issued it or in fact what it is.

Good grief! Sounds like it was issued by a 4th world country!

RH> call from the pharmacy that a perscription was ready for pick up so I
RH> called, found out it was more nitro. Told them that the prescription
RH> was a one time fill and I'd not needed to use it so what they filled
RH> could go back on the shelf (basically).

ML> Remember to fill it every 6 months or so, as even tightly
 ML> sealed nitro gets stale.

I don't need it--the cardiologist said my arteries were all clear. Since
2 areas were suspicious on the nuclear stress test, he wanted me to have
the nitro because it would be another 5 weeks before my catheterization.
He wanted to do it the next week but the day he wanted to do it, we had
a 7:00 am flight to make.

ML> If I hadn't had lots of silly good times with
ML> him and his friends in school, I'd likely not have anything
ML> to do with him today.
 RH> Good memories.

ML> Yeah, mostly. Some really embarrassing ones, too.

ML> Turns out that my college reunion is this weekend, so I could
ML> have seen him there then, but I forgot about it and so am not
 ML> going.

Sigh! My next major college reunion is coming up in a couple of years,
don't know where we'll be or if we can make it. Hopefully they won't
have a pizza party for the older (but not oldest) reunion group like
they did last time. It was OK for the younger grads (generation with
young children) but us older folks should have had something else, not
quite the formal banquet of the oldest group tho.

Catch you later,
Ruth
