Ärende: But it's echolisted?
============================
James Bradley wrote in a message to Roy J. Tellason:

 JB> 01-18-05 20:06, Roy J. Tellason told James Bradley about But it's
 JB> echolisted?

 JB> Well, how do, Roy?

RJT> James Bradley wrote in a message to Bo Simonsen:

RJT> lists here on my other box. And in one of them this guy
RJT> posted, not once but in two separate messages, as to how
RJT> a transformer not only changed the voltage but also changed
RJT> the AC from the power line to DC. I let it go the first
RJT> time but the second time I saw it I finally had to jump in
RJT> there and say that he didn't know what the heck he was
 RJT> talking about...!

JB> Did you tell him about the box of DC transformers you could sell
JB> him? Their more special than the regular kind, didn't you know.
 JB> <Chortle>

RJT> Nah, I really don't want to go there...

JB> He was likely talking about the wall warts/regulated PSs, right?
 JB> I've heard people call those transformers. I couldn't convince a
JB> local once that those can come with an AC output.

Eventually enough people in there got him straightened out.

JB> You taught yourself electronics, didn't you?

RJT> Yeah, and I'm still in the process.

 JB> Amen to that!

JB> limits.) Could you recommend some reading material?

RJT> Not offhand. There seems to be a bunch of good stuff
RJT> online, but it depends on what you're interested in.

JB> Reattaching to my brain mostly. <G> I spent the last twelve years
JB> in constant pain, and wondering why nothing was stickin' to the
JB> synapses. I've pulled out the old TV Serviceman's Manual, (...Or
JB> some title along those lines. The Audel published one anyway.)
JB> thinking most of the CRT stuff would still apply to a 'puter
JB> monitor. I spent most of those twelve years picking up large
JB> monitors for next to, or no money, and as you guessed, some of them
JB> are more working than others.

Some are a lot easier to deal with than others, too. The last one I got into
was this NEC, and by the time you had it apart to be able to get at stuff
there were an awful lot of things taken apart and disconnected that would have
had to be re-done to just try it out when replacing some component or other.
Some are even worse.

JB> I could get in and out of a TV without redoing the hairdo, but if
JB> the part aint burnt, I have to look for the "fix-me" silk screen
 JB> on the PC board.

Heh.

Depends on what it's doing. Worse yet is with monitors you need to find out
what it's capable of in terms of sweep speeds -- an older computer with linux
and a flexible video card would be easier to use than some kind of a commercial
(expensive!) signal generator to try different sweep rates and such, but of
course there's always some risk of damage to the monitor when you go beyond
their limits. Other than that aspect of it complicating the heck out of
things, the basics are pretty similar to tv, except of course there's no RF
signal processing, all that stuff is a whole lot simpler.

So most of the troubles are going to be power supply and sweep circuits,
because that's most of what's in there these days.

RJT> Where do you want to go with it?

JB> It's something to do when I can't cut the lawn, or want to avoid
JB> shovelling the snow. Whenever I can't exercise the body, I try to
 JB> exercise the mind.

I hear ya!
