Ärende: Moose
=============

BF>>>> Is it really so difficult for you to understand that everything isn't
BF>>>> as it is in USA?
RW>>> Nope. However, there is a line that one must draw when one knows how
RW>>> nature works. Moose don't hide from anyone, they don't have to.
BF>> Tell that to the moose-hunters here.

RW> They probably already know it, if they're real moose hunters and not a
 RW> wannabe.

BF>> When there is too many people in the wood making noise they do hide

RW> No, they avoid them by leaving the area.

Why do they leave? You said above that they don't have to hide from anyone.
They are afraid of hunters so either they hide or leave and for me that's the
same thing.

BF>> and when I had dogs that I used to walk in the wood the moose slowly went
 BF>> away

RW> That's because you didn't sneak through the woods, you made noise and they
 RW> knew where you were.

See above.

BF>> and all I saw was their behinds and I know that they even are afraid of
BF>> wolves and bears....and you were saying?

RW> So you're a moose mind reader now. That's interesting. Wolves and bear
RW> (bear is singular and plural, not bears) are predators and all
RW> non-predators avoid them, naturally. That isn't to say that a moose will
RW> run away if or when it is attacked. You know this by observing the mother
RW> of a calf. You were more scared than the calf.

You said that they don't have to hide from anyone above and now you say they
avoid a predator. What's the different between hiding and avoiding?

BF>> I had dogs for about 20 years and we always walked in the woods so I have
BF>> been observing moose and the only time I was really scared was when I
BF>> came in between a female and her calf.

RW> See, you do know that moose are dangerous. So do the wolves and bear.

Moose are only dangerous when they protect their calfs, otherweise they do
as you have said above, avoid....and a pack of hungry wolves or a hungry
bear doesn't care at all about a dangerous moose. They will kill anyway.

BF>> I was very lucky that she didn't attack me or my dog and that is the only
BF>> time when she can be very aggressive.

RW> Wrong. She can be aggressive anytime she wants to be. As will the bull
 RW> moose.

Of course, every animal can be aggressive when it's provoked but the moose
instinct is to avoid (as you have said yourself) first.

BF>> She called for her calf and run off.

RW> Yeup. Because she's not a domesticated animal and instinctively knows that
RW> there may be danger with any other being in the vicinity.

Sigh. Above you have said that they don't have to hide from anyone.

BF>> And we do everything to keep them away since they eat almost everything
in
 BF>> ours.

RW> If you provided them with deer corn and a salt lick, they wouldn't. These
RW> people who feed them have nice yards with flowers and berry bushes in
RW> them. They'll eat anything edible if they're hungry.

I wouldn't provide them with anything since the wood is full of food.
