Even the backwater place where I grew up in the midwest has check cashing
places. Population 26,500 and declining.

Everyone has one of those. You can't get the special sales price without
it. Course, the mark up is a little higher than those places that don't
have a card, which is ok, because there are people out there who don't
want anyone knowing their shopping habits.

I wouldn't know. I use my debit/credit card for purchases.

I used to buy gasoline at one place and that place only because he was a
local, independent dealer. When he switched his pricing to cash for one
price and a higher price for a debit card purchase, I go out of my way to
buy at another independent, who carries the same brand for a price
slightly lower than the other guys debit price. Just because I don't like
his business practices.
