RW> That's nasty stuff. My FIL was dying of bone cancer and had a drawer f
RW> of it. His final days were on again, off again excruciating pain. They
RW> him on morphine; he asked for more. No go, they say he'd get addicted
RW> it. Big deal. Poor man died from the pain, not the desease.

(Motrin) well. I've nothing like that. Just nerve damage and the VA is gonna
have to give me some level of disability. I spent 1.5 YEARS in a wrist brace
24/7 due to it. Now, I just have to sleep with one. I have a black one we
call my 'sexy nightwear' (steel braces fore and aft too! Ohh! I'm nasty <g>.

My symptoms are close to carpal tunnel and definately nerve related. Ruth
Argust and i used to chat in netmail all the time as she had serious problems
(her's were related to a problem in the neck that affected her arms). Mine
seems to be a compound problem, all relatively 'small' but collectively quite
difficult to fix. Shoulder, elbow, wrist. Nerve damage in all 3. Means most
of the time i cant feel my thumb and the first two fingers may or may not have
any feeling or levels of it while the outer pinky side also goes numb. I have
it in both hands but the right one is markedly worse. Palms tingle sometimes.

Been known to down a 12pack then go back to the ship to get my motrin and just
lay there til it passes, but most of the time it's not a big problem. Just
weakness in the hands so some stuff I cant do anymore as i lack the hand
strenght. #1 Nozzleman on a fire hose for example. Nor am I allowed to
weapons qualify (Doc said no, never again for hand pistols and he was not
happy with the idea of a shotgun, though a mounted 25mm he said was no
problem).

RW>> That when she assigned me to Andy.

CS> Yes. He'd get mad at me for trying to dial in to get my mail, if you
 CS> can believe that.

RW> And Himes would get mad because I'd call into get it, and his system
RW> wasn't serving it. That was MY fault...

Heheh I was required to call the OZ guy (hub 300 then?) before i sent out the
netmail for the CRP. I routed much of it and it was a fairly largish load.
Apparently his system couldnt handle that much routed netmail at a shot.

CS> was normally under 5$ a quarter. I understand something happened
CS> later in the management to make it higher, but that has no relation
CS> to me. I saw it drop as low as 78cents once.

RW> When I first started it was less than 1.25$...that's because of all th
RW> people in the net drawing mail. As the net started to thin out, the CR
RW> went up...what I didn't like was the 5 days that there was no mail bec
RW> the machines weren't fixed, although there was plenty of dough in the
RW> kitty.

Yes. I can see how that would work. Dunno about the machines but I recall
well we were trying to get folks to donate more (even good parts) to build
some new ones vice just keep them limping along.

CS> Grin, perhaps you misundersand this one. Andy and i were 'butt
CS> buddies' who setup at the same time. His experience and mine matched
CS> except at the one point I was doing the CRP thing and he was a hub.
CS> Our othernet experiences were mostly him as my NC, me RC feeding him
CS> and other NC's in west coast.

RW> Ahhh, so you both gained experience from the same sources.

Yes and no. At the least, we gained it in tandem from similar ones. In
AMIGAnet he was my RC for example then later my ZC/IC. I was more ADAnet and
TGnet and a few others.

CS> repair money for the mailer.

RW> I just mailed the check...all I cared about was the mail...

Sure, most did. Thats ok. At the most I'd make a 'polite' plea to 'round up
to the next dollar' and add 'use as needed' in a note with the check or on the
memo field of the check. I also remember well the cashiers 'quivvering' when
I came in with the mega bundle of checks to deposit (ohh fat bundle! could be
upwards of 500 of them at least! Remember I took cash at the sysop breakfasts
too). If the bill was 3.34$ (I recall one was that) probably 100 checks would
be for 5$ even and most would say 'machine' in the note spot. Lots would be
for 4$ and say eithger nothing in the note spot or 'whatever' (meaning up to
me and where I knew we needed it most).

It worked, but it took work.

CS>> game. I'm not particularily good with filebone, but I can meet any
CS>> need in any other area and can manage that one 'well enough'.

 RW>> Sounds like it.

Good enough at least. Filebone other than a few areas critical to me never
excited me. I was once, long ago and a far away time ;-) the main filebone
for all disability related items. The Kidney Cancer site still writes me for
example (and not just for donations, personal letters). I'd hunt down files
and send them out but I didnt know the level and still do not, that Janis has
on that.

RW> Heh, I remember the day that Bob Kohl told me that I couldn't get file
RW> from him because files aren't sent via Fidonet...

GUFFAW!

RW>> I endeavor to be decent to those who reciprocate the same. Those
RW>> peopl usually have my respect, whether they're right or wrong.

 CS> {smile}.

RW> Yes, you're included.

Obviously.

CS> Yes, thats you. Me, I divert them mostly and find a common ground.
CS> The only one i never could do that with, was that R12C fellow who's
CS> long gone other than a no-bogus entry at my mailer. When I realized
CS> at last I just couldnt even enjoy Fidonet and was about to quit due
CS> to his constant flamers at me, I got some help with how to filter
 CS> mail out.

RW> Was his name Mike O'Conner?

No, he predates that fellow. This one was the fellow who refused to give any
concerted report on what his region wanted for the Z1C election that brought
in Janis, then blamed me for it when i was trying to filter it all out from
3-4 folks making hundreds of posts, and the rest of his region making just one
or 2 and nothing adding up. It was a mess.

Started when he deleted Tim Strike from the nodelist 4 days after Tim released
the Y2K fix, saying 'he was a dead node'. I called him an asshole in chat
then left to go check status and he never got over it. (I did call him an
asshole but can you imagine getting that upset for that long that he derailed
everything for years later over it? Now thats a person with mental problems!)

What Mike did was vote his mind when he got a mixed vote and it was not the
only thing he did. He did something else (predated me) with the Z1REGCON echo
that had him banned from it. Ross Cassell was there and would be better to
speak on it than I would.

                                       xxcarol
